How to Quit Heroin Cold
Turkey |
The best way and the right way to
quit heroin has always been cold turkey.
However, quitting heroin cold turkey is not easy by any
means and may be dangerous for some depending on your
present condition of health. But... you can still do
this!
I do realize that quitting heroin
cold turkey is much easier said than done. Believe me, I
understand completely. I've been through the bone
crushing leg pains and those horrific cold chills.
Never the less, quitting heroin cold turkey should
always be Plan A.
We learn a greater lesson and have
a far greater fear and respect for heroin when we quit
heroin cold turkey. The painful withdrawals from
quitting heroin cold turkey are, in a sense, our reaping for
being so foolish to try heroin in the
first place, for turning our bodies into slaves and for
hurting all of those people who love us the most.
Furthermore, once you go threw the
pain and agony of quitting heroin cold turkey, you'll have a far greater
chance of staying clean and staying far away from heroin
for good.
When quitting heroin cold turkey
you just finish your last bag, then stop completely and
to a certain degree isolate yourself from the world. The
hardest part is going through the physical withdrawal
symptoms for the first 4 to 7 days. Withdrawals may and
will persist with many users. The mental and
emotional torture are right there as well.
This will be the biggest battle
you’ll ever go through in your life. It’s you
going to war against yourself. Once you have decided to
quit cold turkey then it would be best to tell someone
such as a close family member or drug-free friend so
that they can stay with you, help and support you or at
least check up on you for the first week or two.
You’ll have a much better chance of conquering
this dope habit with a 'drug-free' quitting buddy, your
mother or your father
by your side.
WARNING: Sudden
withdrawal by heavily dependent users who are in extreme poor
health is rarely fatal. Those in poor health,
should not try to do this alone.
WARNING #2:
Pregnant women addicted to heroin should not attempt to
quit cold turkey as this can cause miscarriage
and/or major damage
to your baby and possibly even death. Please read the
article,
"Quitting Heroin While Pregnant".

But if you've
been dope sick before for 48 hours or more then don't worry, thou shall
not die.
You can quit
heroin cold turkey at home or far away from home such as
in a hotel room, the home of a family member or friend.
It would be best if you can get as far away from the
dope spot or home as possible. It may even be best for
you to never return home.
Stay away from your dope
friends for good. But if you have
no choice, then do it at home, with a drug-free quitting
buddy and 'prepare yourself for
the greatest battle of your life'.
Try to stack up on everything you’ll need to
survive for
the next 7 days i.e. soup, food, bananas,
water, vitamins, Gatorade, pharmaceutical meds, good movies,
good music etc.
Make sure you do not have any cash on you and if at all
possible, leave your ATM card with someone you can
trust, parents, friends etc… this is necessary to avoid
temptation.
Erase the Dope-Mans phone number from your cell phone
along with any of your friends who do drugs and then shut
your cell phone off or throw it away. Total and
permanent separation from those types of people will be
required. 'Resist the Dope-Man and he will flee from
you.'
Heroin withdrawal symptoms are some of the most painful
bone crushing symptoms an addict can experience compared
to withdrawal from any other drug. Heroin addiction is
both physical and psychological torture so expect to go
a little crazy and even cry for heroin.
Withdrawal symptoms may begin six to eight hours after
your last dose was taken. Major withdrawal symptoms peak
between 48 and 72 hours after your last dose and will
decrease after about 5- 7 days (when you follow these
guide lines to the letter.)
However, some people may show persistent heavy
withdrawal symptoms for 7-10 days and go through
withdrawal like symptoms for weeks, so be prepared, but
don't be scared, for thou shall not die.
Those who just lie in their beds and
do nothing stay sick for weeks. You will have to attack your body by forcing
yourself to remain active each and every day.
Again, this will be the biggest battle of your life. But
if you can manage to quit heroin, then you can
accomplish anything in life! So
you may want to start planning what you're going to do
with the rest of your life once you've broken free from
this heroin slave habit.
You can start off by making a mental list of all of the
people, friends and family whom you have done wrong
and start planning on what you're going to do to make
things right. This is called 'restitution' and it must be
done to the best of your ability.
What you should expect and what to do: The first 3-5 days are pure
torture. You'll actually believe that you're
going to die. But again, fear not, for thou shall not
die. And when you're done and have broken free from this
horrific addiction,
then thou shall live life like never before.
(By the way, this is a great time to quit smoking since
cigarettes taste nasty when quitting dope. You can use
this opportunity to go all the way and quit
everything.) |

|
| |

 |
 |
From the beginning you’ll
start to panic. Your mind will begin to instruct
you on how to get your next fix. This is where
you tell yourself to "SHUT UP! I
can do this!"
Get in front of the mirror and keep repeating
to yourself out loud, "I can do this!", all day long. Then move
on and keep fighting!
You’re already crazy for doing heroin in the
first place so don’t be afraid to talk to
yourself and encourage yourself to fight.
Take a good look in the mirror and see what
heroin has done to you and your life. That
should move you.
Although you'll be feeling
like death, during these next few days you
should try to go outside and run, not jog but run
like Forrest Gump.
You’ll notice that while your running you’ll
hardly feel any withdrawal symptoms.
The chills and leg pains will disappear while
your running. But you can’t run forever so
you’ll want to take short brakes. If you go out
running at 12:am at night then be sure you take your I.D. with
you. |
 |
If someone sees you running
down the block in the middle of the
night then they’re bound to call the cops on
you. Then you'll have a lot of explaining to do
to the little blue men.
When running during the first 7-14 days, you
will begin to feel better much much faster than
how you would have normally felt if you were just to
stay home, lie on your bed and wither away.
Someone says, “how in the world do you expect me to go
out for a long fast walk, jog or run when I just
finished throwing up and crawled back into bed, sick
like a dog?”
Good question - now here's one for you; if you just
finished throwing up and started crawling back to your
bed, but while you were crawling on the floor you found
a $20 bill, (but your cell phone was
dead or cut off), what would you do? You know very well
what you would do.
You would become the happiest man or woman alive and
within split seconds, you would stop crying and
you would FORCE yourself to get up, get
dressed and run right through that door like the
incredible hulk on the run.
You wouldn't even brush your teeth, you would just take
off like a rocket straight to the dope-spot. And
miraculously, within minutes, you would start to feel
better 'walking fast', knowing that
even after an hours walk to the dope spot you were going
to be healed. |
|
|
|
| |

 |
 |
You may have to make a stop and
throw up on the side walk or visit the 7-11 bathrooms to
deal with diarrhea, but you would just do it, get it
over with and continue on walking through rain, sleet,
or snow to complete your mission. No matter what,
nothing would stop you.
In the same sense, if you want to feel better, then you
will have to use that same motivation to force
yourself to get up, get dressed and take a long fast
walk, jog or run. You will have to convince
yourself with the 'thought' of, "if I do it, if I force
myself to get up and get out there, then I will feel
better". Then you will do it and you will feel better.
If something is going to make you feel better, other
than heroin itself, then do it. Force yourself to get up
and head out the door and start walking, jogging or
running for relief. You WILL feel better and
begin to recuperate much much faster. But don't
just take my word for it. Read what these x-addicts had
to say about this subject:
"Hey buddy, good news! I'm on day
13 right now and never felt more powerful in my life..
I'm at the point where I'm training every day an hour a
day super intense with weights and cardio.
So I'm beyond where I thought I'd be on day 13...and now
I'm just feeling on top of the world mentally...The
more I forced myself every day to be active despite
lethargy, the more the energy was coming back to me
naturally as the days passed. It's amazing how you can
snap back and not just that, be stronger and better than
before using drugs, in a mental and soon a physical
sense." GS (male)
"Jorge, I think i have mad it
through the worst of it. With your help i have made it.
The cravings are still bad but i would expect that.
Getting out and walking has really helped the
muscle and bone pain plus it helps me clear my head.
sleep is coming slow but sure. Thanks for being
there for me!!" CK (female)
After you're done walking, jogging
or running, you’ll want to take as many hot baths and showers as you can.
The best thing to do is to fill up your tub with hot, hot
water and stay there until it warms down and then fill
it up again. Relaxing in the hot tub filled with hot hot
water through out the day, several times per day, for
the first week will bring great relief.
Adding Epsom Salt to your baths also helps. The increase
in ionic strength prevents some of the temporary skin
wrinkling ("pruning") which is caused
by prolonged immersion under water.
It can also be absorbed into the skin, reducing
inflammation if diarrhea becomes a problem. An old
remedy for diarrhea in adult chickens is 1/2 tsp per
bird per day added to their feed. I'm not sure what it
is for humans but 1/2 teaspoon in 1 cup water may do the
trick.
Wear warm clothing when you’re out
and about and even in your home. You’ll be sweating a
lot but don’t let that trouble you. It’s necesarry to sweat all
those toxins from your body. Try to get a small portable heater and stay close to it
in order to keep you warm. |
|
|
| |

 |
 |
By day 5 you’ll
start to notice the withdrawal symptoms deceasing just a
bit. By day 7 you will start feeling stronger
and restless but you will still feel withdrawal
symptoms. Again it depends on how much heroin you've
been consuming daily. People who shoot up several bags per day have a
much harder time than people who snort or smoke heroin.
Cold chills, shivering, shaking and tremors;
You’re going to feel horrific cold
chills. Most people feel that this is the worse part
after the bone crushing pain. It's like having the worse
flu in the world multiplied 1000 fold. You’ll even get
goose bumps. But hot baths and running will help take
those cold chills away.
The chills will be very strong at the beginning but
after several days they'll start to decrease and even go
away, but only for a short time. They'll come back
again. It will be on and off during the day and all
through the night. Hot
baths and running will bring great relief.
By day 8 you may still have the chills but they'll
be mild and
less painful compared to the first few days. You’ll have more time of relief in
between those chills. It could be 1 chilling episode every
5 to 10 minutes but they will decrease
and will go away as time goes on.
To fight the chills:
Spend the first 3-4 days in a tub
filled with HOT HOT water for as long as you possibly
can. You can actually get through the worse part of the
withdrawals by staying in your tub filled with hot hot water
for 30 minute periods through out the day and the night.
Of course, you’ll need to get out every once in a while
but then get back in and stay there. Keep your fingers
and toes raised above the water to avoid wrinkled pruning skin. You can even bring your TV into your
bathroom, stay there and relax for a while…
-Take a long fast walk, jog or
run.
-Wear warm clothing at all times.
-Sit next to a portable heater.
-Eat packages of hot chicken soup.
-Drink (Tylenol?) tea for fevers/flu
or any flu/fever teas.
-Take long hot hot baths through out the
day.
-A hot bath is very effective for
heroin withdrawal symptoms.
Bone crushing pain and muscle cramps:
You’ll experience severe pain in your bones, especially
in your legs. For some this is the worse part of
withdrawals. Try not to punch your legs with your fist,
instead, massage them heavily. Stretch your quads hard
repeatedly.
You can apply some Bengay, heating pads and take strong muscle
relaxers. Take ibuprofen(?) and/or Moltrin(?) at the highest
milligram. These bone pains and muscle cramps will
decrease in time when accompanied by running and
exercise. Possibly 7-10 days or less. |
|
|
|
| |

 |
 |
To fight bone
crushing pain and muscle aches:
-Massage you legs heavily.
-Apply Bengay, and other muscle soreness creams with
heat.
-Take muscle relaxers.
-Take Ibuprofen(?) or Motrin(?) at the highest mg.
-Take long and fast walks 3-4 times per day.
-Walk up and down stairs.
-Keep moving, stretching and flexing your quads.
-Run. Run. Run.
Runny nose, watery eyes and excessive yawning:
There’s not much you can do here other than take some
Dayquil(?) During the day and Nyquil(?) at night.
Benadryl(?) also helps. Keep some tissues with you
at all times to blow your nose
and wipe away the tears.
To treat runny nose and watering eyes:
-Take extra strength Dayquil(?) During the day and Nyquil(?)
at night.
-Allergy medicine such as Benadryl(?)
-Blow your nose with soft tissue frequently.
-Drink Tylenol(?) tea for flu/fevers.
-Chew maximum strength Halls cough drops.
Loss of appetite: You won’t feel like
eating anything and that’s ok for he first couple of
days but try to at least eat 1 slice of toast, 1 hard
boiled egg, or small portions of chicken soup
cups from 7-11. They’re
cheap, quick and easy to make and they taste great. If you can, drink small portions of Gatorade
and water throughout the day. You’ll need to put
something in your system in order to sustain yourself.
But keep it light.
To treat loss of appetite:
-Eat, or at least try to eat lightly. 2 slices of toast
or
1 Hard boiled egg.
-Eat portions of cups/packages of hot chicken soup.
-Eat 1/2 of a banana for potassium.
-Eat bran crackers.
-Eat small portions of hot solid foods.
-Eat small pieces of French or Italian bread with
butter.
Insomnia and sleeplessness: Most likely
you won’t get any sleep for the first 7 days. You’ll be
lucky to get 1 hour per day. However, sleeplessness will
be the least of your concerns. Use that time to think
about what you're going to do with the rest of your
life.
You can take extra strength Nyquil(?), or Benadryl(?)
with melatonin which
works as a natural sleeping aid. Along with melatonin,
you can also take Valerian Root herbal capsules during the day
and night to help calm your nerves. |
|
|
| |

 |
 |
Bring the TV to
your bedroom if you haven’t sold it already. Watching
funny movies or sitcoms like Friends and Big Bang
Theory(?) can help you make it through the night. Time goes by faster
when you're watching TV. Or just lie on your bed
for 30 minutes thinking of what your life is going to be
like after becoming free from heroin.
To treat insomnia and
sleeplessness:
-Take Melatonin.
-Take Valerian Root capsules.
-Drink extra strength Nyquil(?) night
time medicine.
-Keep telling yourself that this
will all be over soon.
-Get it when you can.
Nausea and vomiting: You've been here
before after a good hang over from drinking too much
alcohol. You already know what it's like to throw up
everything you have within you. Just do it and
get it over with. Then take 2 Alka Seltzers. Go to your local pharmacy and buy some over
the counter anti-vomiting/anti-nausea medicine and
Imodium AD.
To treat nausea and vomiting:
-Take 2 Alka Seltzers then go out for fresh air.
-Take Imodium AD at high levels
-Eat crackers and bread.
-Visit pharmacy to purchase anti-nausea/anti-vomiting
(Dramamine Tablets).
Diarrhea and stomach cramps: Drink
small sips of Gatorade
and try to at least eat crackers, bread with peanut
butter or small portions of fruit for solid foods.
To treat diarrhea and stomach cramps:
-Take Imodium AD at high levels
-Drink Pepto-Bismol.
-Take Moltrin(?) at the highest milligrams.
-Take 1/2 tea spoon of Epsom Salt with 1 cup of water.
-Take anti-diarrhea pills. (visit your local CVS pharmacy
and buy some over the counter anti-diarrhea pills or
formula.)
Depression and crying: Of course you’re going to
feel depressed going thru withdrawals, knowing that
just one shot of dope will make it all go away. But
don’t fall for it. One more shot of heroin will only
continue to ruin your life. Your 'crying for heroin'
will decrease as well.
Try to watch some funny movies or sitcoms on TV such as
Friends. Listen to good clean music. But whatever you
do, don’t let yourself get depressed, instead, get happy
and excited. Be happy, in knowing that finally you’re
going to kick this nasty heroin habit, and when it’s all
over with, you'll be like a
whole new person freed from the heroin prison system.
To treat depression: |
|
|
|
| |

|
 |
-Take St Johns
Wart
-Take DHEA which is also administered in detox centers to decrease
depression
-Watch funny TV sitcoms and movies.
-Think positive. Don't' think about heroin.
-Always think on the end results; what your life will be
like when you’re finally off of heroin.
-Keep telling yourself, “I can do this!”
and stay positive.
*Music
is a major key and can become one of the most greatest tools
at your disposal to help you get through the withdrawal
period. Try to listen to clean, decent, positive music.
(no rap hip hop, no r&b, no reggaeton, no house, no techno,
no metal, no rock etc.)
Don't fool yourself. The music of
today's generation was purposely designed and created to
bring you to where you're at now. And this is coming
from a person who grew up on Ice Cube, Too Short, NWA,
Dr Dre, Ice T, Snoop Dog and all the rest of those evil
puppets.
Bad music draws in negative
energy and bad influence which keeps you down. 'Good music', put
forth by 'the right type of people' will drive that
negative energy away and draw positive influence and energy into
your life. It will lift you up, make you happy and help
you greatly in so many ways, while going through
withdrawals and even more so afterwards.
As the old saying goes; "you are what you eat". The
same is true of music - you are what you listen to.
"Thus, what you listen to, literally forms what you
become." LDA
I highly recommend you visiting

and safest types of music to listen to:

Before you quit, and put yourself on lock-down,
you might consider trying to obtain some of the following products if you
have the money to do so.
-Buy many cup packages of chicken noodle soup (different
flavors).
-Buy a new or used small portable heater to sit and
sleep next to.
-Buy some Ibuprofen(?), Imodium AD along with any
kind of muscle relaxers.
-Buy some Herbal Valerian Root capsules to help you relax.
-Buy melatonin to help you get at least a 1 hour of
sleep.
-Buy a couple of Nyquil(?) night time medicine bottles. |

Vitamins to help with heroin withdrawal
symptoms:
-L-Tyrosine (500 mg caps)
-Vitamin B6 capsules
-Tribulus enhances testosterone levels naturally
-Cayenne pepper capsules -AKA Heat Capsules
-Wide-spectrum mineral supplement containing Zinc,
Phosphorus, Copper, Magnesium and Potassium. Take 2-3
daily.
Keep a calendar on the wall and mark off the days
with a check mark as
the days go by. i.e. Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4, Day 5, Day
6, Day 7, all the way to day 40.
So how do you quit heroin cold turkey? You just do it!
You make the decision to quit, plan your days carefully
and then do it. Summons up everything you have left
within you, then start the battle and fight this thing
with all your might, all your heart, and all your soul.
You're life depends on it. Your future is at
stake. You must win this battle or die!
Yes - it's do or die my friend. And I
can assure you that this will be the greatest battle you’ll ever face in your life.
But the
life long rewards of 'freedom' from
heroin slavery are far greater than the temporary
suffering you will go through during the next
several days.
It took me 6 months to feel my normal body again. I
haven't touched heroin in over 16 years. And I will never
touch that or any type of drug ever again.
I want you to be free! I want you to know what it's like
to wake up and feel your normal body once again.
No more
chills, no more bone crushing pains. No nothing.
Just pure
appreciation from finally being free from this heroin
slavery once and for all.
That day will come sooner than you think if you
just get up and do it now!
You can do this! I swear you can!
You know what you gotta do. All you
gotta do now is just do it!
Win this battle, and
turn your life around!
Now,... repeat after me:
"I'm gonna do this... And this time, I'm gonna
win."
