                    How to Quit Heroin
How to Quit Heroin How to Quit Heroin

Dear heroin user,

If you've made it this far then be of good cheer - for there is still much hope for you. You are now on 'the right path'. Keep reading...

There are a few ways to quit heroin:

Symptoms of heroin withdrawal Plan A: Quitting Heroin Cold Turkey
Symptoms of heroin withdrawal Plan B: Quitting Heroin Warm Turkey with lesser evil opiates
Symptoms of heroin withdrawal Plan C: Quitting Heroin with Methadone and/or Suboxone
Symptoms of heroin withdrawal Plan D: Quitting Heroin in a Drug Rehabilitation Facility

However, I can assure you, that no matter which route you take, there will be a battle. There will be a constant war going on within your body, mind and soul. Heroin is a strong enemy.

But if you can just start pushing yourself to start trying to quit, start building momentum, and put everything you got into this then I promise you, you will quit heroin, stay clean and have a chance to turn your life around for good. And no matter how many times you fail, you must continue to fight or else nothing will change. Quit heroin or die trying.

There is no better feeling in the world than waking up in the morning to feel your normal body again, not having the need for heroin or any other opiates to fill those receptors. It's such a relief not having to worry about how you're going to get that first bag of the day in order to just feel normal. You wont have to lie, cheat or steal any longer. You can live a normal life.

After you quit heroin and win this battle, then you can begin to turn your life around and focus on the most important things in life, your loved ones, and life itself. Because if you can manage to quit heroin then I can assure you that you can accomplish anything in life.

I started doing heroin with my father in Brooklyn New York at the age of 15. I started living a life a crime, stealing cars by the age of 17, just to support my daily heroin habit. I used to go to jail 4-5 times per year each and every year from the age of 17 to 21. I started off snorting heroin and then later graduated to shooting up every single day, several times per day. I tried to quit heroin many times but failed. The end to my heroin addiction finally came by the age of 21. That's when I finally decided to put my foot down, cut off all dope friends, relocate, quit heroin, and turn my life around. It wasn't easy. In fact it was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. But in time, I did it! I quit heroin for good. I'm 37. I haven't touched heroin in over 16 years. And I will never touch that or any other drug ever again.

                    How to Quit Heroin
I want to help you do the same. I want to help you quit heroin, stay clean and turn your life around. I'm going to share with you some tips and guidelines from mine own personal experiences that will help you quit this nasty dope habit once and for all. However, none of this will do you any good if you don't start trying. You have to start trying.

Now, I realize that every heroin user lives under different circumstances and sometimes, unfortunate situations. We all live different types of lifestyles. We're all different. Some are young, some are old. Some are guys and some are girls. Some have parents while others have children. Some live at home while others live on their own or with their partners. We've all come from different backgrounds. Yet, we've all fallen into that same heroin trap.

However, regardless of the for-mentioned above, each and everyone of us always has someone who truly does care about us, yet knows nothing about your heroin addiction. They may have a clue, but they may not realize and understand the seriousness of how bad this heroin addiction really is, which brings us step 1.

This first step may seem impossible for some. Many of you will say “NO WAY! I can't do this - this is crazy”. But I can assure you, executing phase 1, step 1, will bring an almost instant change to your daily life as a heroin user. This will put a stop to all the madness or at least slow it down. And in the fullest sense, it's for your own good, so do it.

Symptoms of heroin withdrawal Step 1: Come Clean

Come clean to your mother. Come clean to your father. Come clean to your brother. Come clean to your sister. Come clean to your wife. Come clean to your husband. Come clean to your girlfriend. Come clean to your boyfriend. Come clean to your best friend. Come clean to your true friends. And if you're a functioning addict then come clean to your boss.

And when you do come clean, keep your head down and come clean 100%. Put it all on the table. Don't try to hide anything. Don't try to make the situation seem less than what it actually is. Come clean now before it comes back to you later down the road.

You can't do wrong and get by”, LDA. If you don't come clean now then sooner or later it will catch up to you and will most likely cause a major disaster in your life. Come clean now while you still have the chance. Then beg for forgiveness. Don't stop apologizing.
keep your head down and come clean 100%
Don't stop telling them how sorry you are. Don't stop asking them to forgive you. Beg them to forgive you for deceiving them, lying, cheating, stealing and/or all of the above. Even if you feel that you haven't lied or stolen from them, there's always a good chance that you have deceived them in one way or another.

                    How to Quit Heroin
There is no such thing as an honest heroin addict.

'Coming clean' is for your own protection. Your overseers will keep a watchful eye over you from here on out. They'll help to protect you from destroying yourself any further, if you let them. By coming clean, you wont have to live a double life any longer. Everything will change in an instant if you just come clean. But in the end, it's all up to you.

And last but not least, beg them to help you. Beg them to help you quit this nasty heroin habit once and for all. If you've been truly sincere with all of the above and if the person or people to whom you've come clean to have any ounce of humanity at all, then they will help you. They will forgive you and help you in any way that they can.

However, if you have to do this on your own, then get ready for the biggest battle of your life. It will be you against your own demons. And in the end, it's going to be you who gets yourself out of this mess and no one else. It will have to be you who decides to crack down on yourself and force yourself to do what is right and refuse to do what is wrong.

I will be more than willing to go through this battle with you every step of the way. I will be here to encourage you each and every day. But it's up to you to decide once and for all to quit this thing and turn your life around. No one can do it for you. You have to do this for yourself. What you do now, determines what becomes of the rest of your life.

Symptoms of heroin withdrawal Step 2: Choose your weapon Choose your weapon
Symptoms of heroin withdrawal Plan A: Quitting Heroin Cold Turkey
Symptoms of heroin withdrawal Plan B: Quitting Heroin Warm Turkey with lesser evil opiates
Symptoms of heroin withdrawal Plan C: Quitting Heroin with Methadone or Suboxone
Symptoms of heroin withdrawal Plan D: Quitting Heroin in a Drug Rehabilitation Facility

Plan A, quitting heroin cold turkey, should always be your first choice. I realize it's easier said than done. And it can also become dangerous for some. However, quitting heroin cold turkey, as painful as it is, has always been the right way and best way to quit heroin.

And once you get through the pain and suffering from the withdrawals, then you'll have a much better chance of learning your lesson and staying away from dope for good.

I understand the pain. I've been there myself many times. But you can do this. And if you've come clean then you'll have someone there to help you make it out of this thing alive.

When you're done, you won't have to worry about coming off of any other meds or opiates. Once you're done, you're done. Then it's just a matter of time, diet and exercise before your body returns to normal. It won't be easy, but it can be done. You can do this.

We learn a greater lesson and have a far greater fear and respect for heroin when we quit heroin cold turkey.

The painful withdrawals from quitting cold turkey are, in a sense, our reaping for being so foolish for trying heroin in the first place, turning our bodies into slaves and hurting all of those who love us the most.

WARNING: Pregnant women should not attempt to quit heroin cold turkey as this may cause major brain damage and possibly death to your baby. Please read my article, Quitting Heroin While Pregnant.

Now, if you tried Plan A, gave it all you had and still failed, then by all means, don't give up and don't slow down. Quickly move on to Plan B, quitting heroin warm turkey with the help of lesser evil opiates such as Valiums and Vicodins.
poor dope sick guy
When quitting heroin warm turkey you will be doing everything the same as if you were quitting heroin cold turkey but with the help of 2 'lesser evil' opiates such as Valiums and/or Vicodins or whichever low level opiates you have in your country for anxiety and pain.

Here you would wait until your body goes into full withdrawal from the absence of heroin (12-24 hours) and then take 1 10mg Valium and 1 10mg Vicodin every 4-5 hours. Then relax in the bath tub filled with hot water and allow time for the drugs to take affect. (20-30 minutes)

Valium is a benzodiazepine derivative drug and can be used to treat anxiety, insomnia, and most importantly, symptoms of acute opiate (heroin) withdrawal.

Vicodin is another opioid product which contains hydrocodone which helps with those bone crushing leg pains and other withdrawal symptoms to a fair degree. Vicodin is used to relieve moderate to severe pain.
Plan B, quitting heroin warm turkey with the help of lesser evil opiates such as valiums and vicodins.
The goal here is not to get high and comfortable but instead, to minimize withdrawals. Taking these opiate pharmaceutical drugs at low dosages may be just enough to keep stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea on hold.

Quitting heroin with Methadone and/or Suboxone.

You'll still feel withdrawals symptoms such as mild chills and irritableness even when taking Valiums and Vicodins, but your internal suffering will be less when quitting warm turkey compared to quitting heroin cold turkey.

Warning: Try not to use these meds for more than 20-30 days as Valiums and Vicodins are addictive. Use them only as a crutch. Start tapering down at least after the first 7-10 days.

To learn how to obtain valiums and vicodins and how to quit heroin warm turkey then please read my article, How to Quit Heroin with Meds” for step by step instructions and then just do it!

If you tried Plan A, and Plan B, and failed at both then again, DON'T give up and don't slow down.

Quickly move on to Plan C; Quitting heroin with Methadone and/or Suboxone.

Just about every heroin user already knows what methadone and suboxone are. Most likely you have tried at least one these before.
Plan C; Quitting heroin with Methadone and/or Suboxone.

Methadone is a full opioid antagonist while Suboxone is a partial opioid antagonist. Methadone being the stronger antagonist, relieves all of those painful withdrawal symptoms and cravings, thus allowing you to continue to work and function like a normal human being.
Methadone has been proven to be very effective for helping users get off of heroin.

Suboxone, a partial antagonist, also relieves withdrawal symptoms but yet does little for cravings. Both of these medications are addictive. Therefore, you would be much better off starting off at the lowest possible dosage and then begin to taper down by day 7-10.

Try not to stay on any of these meds for more than 30-45 days, regardless of what your doctor tells you. Doctors and clinics will keep you on these medications for many months and sometimes even years, thus creating a whole new addiction. That's no way to live.

When quitting heroin with Methadone or Suboxone, success is more likely when accompanied by counseling from a trained therapist or an NA counselor. Look for your nearest NA meetings being held in your area.

Anyone can quit heroin with methadone and suboxone, but you'll still have to battle that urge to use within your mind. You'll still have to get used to living without heroin. You'll have to do everything you can to keep yourself busy every day. Plan your days wisely to avoid relapse.

To learn more on how to obtain and how to quit heroin with Methadone and/or Suboxone then please read my article, “How to Quit Heroin with Meds” for step by step detailed instructions and then just do it!

Now... if you've tried Plan A, Plan B and Plan C and still continue to fail then you may want to look into Plan D, Quitting Heroin in a Drug Treatment Rehabilitation Center.

There are many reasons why drug rehabilitation centers work, such as relocation, isolation and inaccessibility to opiates such as heroin.

When you're in a treatment center you're safe. You're far away from the dope spot, opiates familiar environments and all your dope-friends.
Plan D, Quitting Heroin in a Drug Treatment Rehabilitation Center.
Furthermore, drug rehabilitation centers always provide professional counseling and medical supervision to assist through the detox stage. The only problem with rehab is finding a good, clean, decent facilities for free or at low cost.

But if you have the money, or if your parents can afford it and/or have medical insurance then by all means, find the best treatment center you can find.

Furthermore, with this new (U.S.) government health care reform, you may have a better chance obtaining insurance and thereby be able to admit yourself into a high class, drug rehabilitation treatment center. Don't hold back. Shoot for the best.

When searching for the right rehabilitation facilities, go far, as far as you can. Out of state or cross country works best. Down south in sunny Florida is even better. The sunny warm weather works wonders. The farther you are from home then the harder it will be for you to call it quits, pack up and go home, which happens more often than not.

Make sure the facilities are in a secluded area, away from the city. It would be great if the facilities had a park, benches, trees, walkways, trails, paths etc. A nice natural forest environment soothes the soul. You can even choose beach front facilities with beautiful ocean views - take your pick. The nicer the place, the longer you'll stay. Check for amenities such as fully equipped gyms, saunas, pools, basket ball courts, running tracks etc..

The more they offer, then the more comfortable you'll feel while staying there. Plan on staying there for as long as you can or for as long as you can afford to stay there. The longer the stay then the better your chances will be for staying clean when you do get out.
To learn how to quit heroin in a rehabilitation center then please read my article, “How to Quit Heroin in a Drug Rehab Center” for step by step instructions and then just do it!

Either way, whichever path you take, there will be a battle. And I can assure you, that this will be the biggest battle of your life. So plan wisely and then execute your plan with full force. It's all up to you now. Your life is in your hands. No one forced this habit on you. No one is going to take it away. No one, but you. But you can do this! I swear you can.

You have to do this. Your life depends on it. You still have a little bit of life in you. You're still standing. You've made it this far, so keep moving forward. Get ready, choose your weapon, and then go to war against yourself - and this time, WIN!
