St. Luke's Chemical Dependency
St. Luke's Chemical Dependency program offers a variety of treatment options for individuals suffering from chemical dependency and its effects. A professional chemical dependency counselor will complete a comprehensive evaluation to determine the extent of any substance abuse problem. The results will be discussed and treatment recommendations and referrals (if necessary) will be made. St. Luke's intensive outpatient treatment is structured to use the 12-step philosophy of Alcoholics Anonymous. Treatment is provided by doctors, substance abuse counselors, family therapists, social workers, recreational therapists, nutritionists and spiritual care professionals. The group process focuses on communication and listening skills. Morning and evening programming times are available. The treatment schedule is three days per week for nine to ten weeks. Intensive outpatient therapy includes: Group therapy; Individual counseling; Family awareness groups; Spirituality groups; Recreational therapy; Nutritional counseling; Introduction to 12-Step support groups; Aftercare planning; Extended outpatient treatment. This ten-session program is designed for individuals who have abused a substance and experienced a negative consequence. The program helps individuals explore their association with substances, recognize the affect it has on their lives. Relapse prevention: This program is designed to help individuals who have completed treatment but are having a difficult time staying away from substances. St. Luke's offers a three-session, nine-hour educational program for family members and significant others. Participation in this program helps improve the likelihood the chemically dependent client will benefit from treatment. This program assists family members with understanding and coping with a chemically dependent loved one. When medically-managed detoxification is indicated, a client may be admitted to the hospital. Following stabilization the client may be referred for outpatient treatment services. Our professional staff members are available to speak about chemical dependency and treatment options. Bridges of Iowa
Bridges of Iowa is a licensed level 3.1 long term substance abuse treatment program housed at the West Wing of the Polk County Jail. Bridges of Iowa has forged a partnership with Polk County Board of Supervisors and the Polk County Sherriff and has received the opportunity to house our substance abuse treatment program in an unused wing at the jail facility. This additional space affords BOI with the opportunity to double the number of men served. Further, this space, and grants from the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines and Prairie Meadows, has given Bridges the opportunity to open a women’s treatment program that mirrors the successful men’s program with the addition of gender specific treatment modalities to deal with the particular issues that women face in substance abuse treatment. Curricula developed by Dr. Stephanie Covington, an international expert in the treatment of substance abusing women, will be integrated into BOI programming for women. One on one treatment and therapy groups focus on cognitive behavior and criminal thinking, as well as gender sensitive therapy modalities for female clients. Financial literacy and employment programs prepare clients for success when they leave the BOI program and enable clients to begin to repay debts owed from a life time of criminality. Clients are also exposed to the power of spirituality in the treatment of addictions through faith based programming. Our clients graduate after 12-18 months in the program with a job, a savings account, a faith community and a sobriety mentor. Families are re-connected and patterns of self-destructive behavior are stopped. A recently instituted program to measure client success rates indicates that 77% of the clients who graduated in 2011 remain substance free. Earlier surveys of clients with graduation dates from 2007 to 2011 indicate that 97% of the survey respondents were abstinent from all mood altering substances, 95% are employed, and more than 90% attend church and are active in recovery activities at the time of the survey. For more information please contact Bridges of Iowa.
