Phoenix House New England
Phoenix House New England is one of the region’s premier nonprofit substance abuse treatment agencies. Each year, we serve more than 3,500 individuals at facilities and programs around New England. We operate many programs in close proximity to residents of Maine. Phoenix House helps men, women, and teens recover from addiction. ​Crisis & Counseling Centers
Crisis & Counseling Centers offers several Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOPs), including one specifically for women and other gender-specific substance abuse and co-occurring disorders IOPs. The definition of IOP at C&C is "a structured treatment program for persons with a substance use problem; also welcoming to persons with a co-occurring mental illness." The program is designed to give a strong start in recovery and typically runs from four to eight weeks. Crisis & Counseling Centers also offers Aftercare groups for individuals who have a solid foundation in addiction recovery and want ongoing support, a Seeking Safety group for people who have experienced abuse and have developed a dependence on substances, and other groups for individuals who can benefit from assistance in managing their emotions. A program offered by a consortium of agencies is offering pregnant and parenting women across Maine the support and resources to help them build a substance-free future for their children. Women who are pregnant or have children up to five-years old are eligible for the program. The consortium includes Aroostook Mental Health Services, Crisis and Counseling Centers, Day One, Tri-County Mental Health Services and Wellspring. Wellspring Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services
Wellspring Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services: The Bangor Half-Way House was established in 1965 by a grass-roots group people in recovery along with the support of family members and friends. In1968, the Men’s Halfway House became the first public treatment program for alcoholism in northern Maine. In 1981, the Women’s Halfway House became the first Women’s residential program in Maine. As services expanded to include correctional programs, Wellspring, Inc. was established to provide all treatment services while The Bangor Half-Way House, owner of the two residential program buildings, continued as a separate corporation with the mission “…to maintain a home for individuals seeking rehabilitation from alcoholism and other drug abuse” maintaining the residential facilities. Acknowledging the needs of Wellspring graduates for safe and affordable housing, The Bangor Half-Way House, with the help of a variety of grants made possible by the Maine State Housing Authority, purchased and renovated two apartment buildings. Nine affordable rental units opened in 2004 for graduates of substance abuse treatment programs. Tenants are expected to be in an outpatient or other recovery program and remain alcohol and drug free while transitioning into the community. Manna Ministries helps our struggling neighbors back to their feet. Our services are designed to revitalize self-sufficiency and independence so our guests can get their lives back on track. Our facilities host a Soup Kitchen, a Food Pantry, a Food Bank, Outpatient Counseling Services, Inpatient Substance Abuse services, resources for teaching job search skills, and other programs, including support meetings for alcoholics and addicts. Our Soup Kitchen provides an evening meal Monday through Friday. Manna operates a Food Pantry where families and individuals may come once a week on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday to receive a bag of groceries, which should last three to four days. There are no restrictions on access to various programs; the only stipulation is that our clients require assistance. Sweetser is one of Maine's most comprehensive behavioral healthcare organizations for children, adults and families. Sweetser offers services that address emotional disturbances, mental illnesses, behavioral disorders and learning disabilities through a network of educational programs, preventive services, community-support services, residential homes and outpatient services. Mid Coast Hospital Addiction Resource Center offers a full range of professional treatment services for persons with alcohol or drug related problems. We also provide family and co-dependency services to those affected by someone else's alcohol or drug use. Additionally, we treat persons with substance abuse problems and mental health issues. We conduct a professional assessment with every client and recommend treatment options for problem usage, harmful drinking and drug use patterns, dependency, and addiction. Spurwink Services is a nationally accredited non-profit organization that provides a broad range of mental health and educational services for children, adolescents, adults and families. Standing on a strong foundation of 50 years, Spurwink is among a handful of mental health agencies that engage in pioneering research and setting the standard for continuous quality management. Open Door Recovery Center
Open Door Recovery Center offers Adult and Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Programs, Family Programs, Relapse Prevention, Outpatient Detox & Inpatient Detox through a contact with Maine Coast Memorial Hospital and In School Prevention Programs. The Intensive Outpatient Group (IOP) meets Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 am to 11:30 am for up to twelve weeks. The IOP Program is designed to be more intensive than individual counseling or outpatient treatment, but less disruptive than residential placement. Treatment involves both group counseling and individual sessions and is followed by a six month Relapse Prevention Group. The Family Program offers group and individual counseling for affected others once a week for one and a half hours. This provides an opportunity to understand the effects of alcoholism and other drug addictions on the family and the process of recovery. The In-School Prevention program offers a comprehensive education program within the schools, addressing multiple topics related to substance abuse. Maine operates Adult Drug Treatment Courts (ADTC) in six counties: Androscoggin, Cumberland, Hancock, Penobscot, Washington and York counties. Each ADTC is a special Court-supervised program for selected, non-violent, defendants with significant substance abuse problems. Following a plea agreement, sentencing is deferred and defendants are diverted from incarceration while a multi-disciplinary Team provides strict, continual supervision and oversees demanding, out patient treatment in the community for at least one year. Thus the program allows clients to receive treatment while living and working in the community and avoid lengthy prison sentences as long as they comply with the program's strict requirements and guidelines.
