Acadia Hospital
Acadia Hospital provides a wide array of treatment options for children, adolescents and adults living with a mental illness. We also offer substance abuse treatment services for adolescents and adults. Our mission is to empower people to improve their lives, and we approach our work with that in mind. If you or a loved one is struggling with a mental health or substance abuse issue, or both, please take some time to learn more about how we can help. Our approach to addiction treatment is based on the belief that individuals who abuse chemicals are affected at every level of their existence -- biologically, psychologically, socially, and spiritually. Our treatment programs are practical, short-term and solution focused. We believe the most successful treatment occurs in the patient's real world, not exclusively in the hospital environment. Our treatment team includes physicians, psychiatrists, nurses, psychologists, licensed counselors, occupational and recreational therapists, and psychiatric technicians. Effective treatment also calls for family involvement. Our Saturday family program engages family members in process and psycho-education groups on topics related to chemical dependency recovery. Our continuum of services for chemical dependency includes inpatient and nonresidential care, Narcotic Treatment Program (NTP), Partial Hospitalization, and several Aftercare groups, facilitated by trained volunteers and supervised by a licensed clinician. Following initial assessment, individuals are placed in the appropriate level of care. For more information please contact Acadia Hospital.

Colonial Management Group
Colonial Management Group, CMG, operates a number of nationally recognized and accredited methadone treatment centers dedicated to helping these individuals and their families regain control of their lives. Addiction is recognized as a chronic disease by the World Health Organization, the American Medical Association, the National Institute of Drug Addiction, the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment and many others. As such, addiction has been clinically proven to be managed with appropriate medication and counseling. Our comprehensive treatment programs begin with a detailed psychological assessment and initial treatment plan at induction. Our highly skilled staff then guides patients through a medically supervised stabilization period that integrates individual, group and family counseling along with state of the art medication treatments such as methadone and Suboxone, followed by continuing outpatient care throughout the medical maintenance phase. When the treatment plan is followed, and the medications are taken as directed, this treatment philosophy is proven to suppress symptoms of opiate withdrawal, decrease cravings for opiates, reduce illicit opiate use, block the effects of other opiates, and assist patients in staying committed to treatment and a lifestyle of recovery. We take great pride in treating our patients with dignity and respect in each phase of their treatment experience. For more information please contact CMG, Colonial Management Group.

Tri County Mental Health Services
Tri County Mental Health Services, TCMHS, continues to be a progressive leader in service development, delivery, and a vital link in Maine’s healthcare community. It serves about 10,000 Maine people of all ages each year, offering programs to address mental illness, substance abuse, developmental / intellectual disabilities and autism. TCMHS is one of Maine’s largest non-profit organizations and is governed locally by a board of community volunteers. Over its six decades, the agency has grown geographically to serve virtually all of Western Maine as well as Cumberland and York Counties. It has also grown programmatically to meet emerging needs and develop state of the art treatment services, including the largest number of evidence-based practices with rigorous outcomes measures and fidelity standards. Tri-County has been recognized as a leader in trauma-informed services, as the State’s first pilot site for developing trauma-informed services for adults, and then as the lead agency in the six year THRIVE initiative which now provides training and assistance to organizations across the nation in trauma-informed care. Integrated care combines medical and behavioral health services to better address the spectrum of problems that patients bring to their primary care providers (PCPs). The majority of these patients have either a physical ailment that is affected by stress, problems maintaining healthy lifestyles, or a psychological disorder, so it is both clinically appropriate and cost effective to integrate behavioral health with primary care. With healthcare reform on the horizon we believe that integrating care of the mind and body will prove to be cost effective and the highest quality care for our communities. For more information please contact Tri County Mental Health Services.

The Maine Department of Corrections (DOC) agrees. For almost 10 years now, the DOC has collaborated with judges, district attorneys, mental health agencies, service providers, and police to better understand why so many young people end up in Maine’s juvenile correctional facilities – and what can be done to improve the situation. Other evidence-based practices include multi-systemic therapy, multi-dimensional treatment foster care, aggression replacement training, and more. We have a commitment to quality services and the recruitment of caring, compassionate professionals, Spurwink has gained a reputation for excellence in evidence-based treatment and service delivery throughout New England. Open Door Recovery Center
Open Door Recovery Center offers Adult and Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Programs, Family Programs, Relapse Prevention, Outpatient Detox & Inpatient Detox through a contact with Maine Coast Memorial Hospital and In School Prevention Programs. The Intensive Outpatient Group (IOP) meets Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 am to 11:30 am for up to twelve weeks. The IOP Program is designed to be more intensive than individual counseling or outpatient treatment, but less disruptive than residential placement. Treatment involves both group counseling and individual sessions and is followed by a six month Relapse Prevention Group. The Family Program offers group and individual counseling for affected others once a week for one and a half hours. This provides an opportunity to understand the effects of alcoholism and other drug addictions on the family and the process of recovery. The In-School Prevention program offers a comprehensive education program within the schools, addressing multiple topics related to substance abuse. Maine operates Adult Drug Treatment Courts (ADTC) in six counties: Androscoggin, Cumberland, Hancock, Penobscot, Washington and York counties. Each ADTC is a special Court-supervised program for selected, non-violent, defendants with significant substance abuse problems. Following a plea agreement, sentencing is deferred and defendants are diverted from incarceration while a multi-disciplinary Team provides strict, continual supervision and oversees demanding, out patient treatment in the community for at least one year. Thus the program allows clients to receive treatment while living and working in the community and avoid lengthy prison sentences as long as they comply with the program's strict requirements and guidelines. For more information please contact Open Door Recovery Center.
