Quitting heroin and staying clean for men:
|
Being free from heroin or any opiate drug is one of the best feelings in the world.
Being able to wake up in the morning feeling normal without the need of any drugs is the greatest feeling you’ll ever have, especially if you’ve been hooked on heroin for any length of time. And believe it or not, you can have this. You can be free. You can quit this drug and get your life back. It wont be easy but it can be done. |
I remember many, many years ago waking up on a Saturday morning and feeling completely normal. I was waiting for the cold chills to come but they never came. No chills, no bone pains, no leg pains, no nothing. And I remember thinking, “man, I can’t believe I’m finally free. I’m finally normal. I can’t believe I made it out of that trap alive”. Because I should have been dead or in jail a long, long time. But instead, life showed me mercy and allowed me to live till this very day so that somehow I can help you to quit heroin, stay clean and turn your life around.
I know what you’re going through. I’ve been there before myself. I know what it’s like to wake up sick every day with the only thought on your mind is the thought getting high just to feel right. I know what it’s like to have this drug rule and control your life day in and day out. But I also know what it’s like to be free.
I know what it’s like to go through the struggle to break free from heroin. And I know that it’s very possible for you to quit this drug and stay clean for good. It won’t be easy, but it can be done. I’ve done it myself, and many others have done it as well. And if you’re ready to quit heroin, stay clean and turn your life around then get ready my friend, for your day has finally come. Your life is about to change, in one form or another. And if you do what this website tells you to do then your life will change forever.

Your life is about to change, in one form or another. And if you do what this website tells you to do then your life will change forever.
Why quit now:
Quit now because it’s the right thing to do. Quit now, because it’s the best thing that you could ever do in your life. And quit now before it’s too late and things become worse. And believe it or not, things can get worse - much, much worse than what they are right now.
Some of you may have a good life now; you have a car, a job, a home, a family, and maybe even a little bit of money in the bank as well. And some of you may be able to wake up in the morning, get high, go to work, come home, get high, relax, get high, and then go to sleep, only to wake up and do the same thing all over again day after day after day.
You may work to support your habit. You may not lie, cheat or steal from anyone; and that’s good. But that also makes you a functioning addict as well; and this is bad. Because it’s more difficult for a functioning addict to quit heroin and stay clean for good than it is for an addict who lives a life of chaos day in and day out.
In fact, I have more hopes for the addict who lives a life of chaos and is about to hit rock bottom, or who has already hit the bottom than for the addict who lives a normal life. Because if you’ve hit rock bottom, then there’s only one way to go from here – and that’s up. And unfortunately, most people don’t change until they get sick of their lives and sick of the drugs as well. And if you hate what this drug has done to you and what it’s done to your life as well, then have hope my friend, for today is your day to break free. And there’s no better time to quit heroin and change than now. And for those of you who still have a good life then the best time for you to quit and change is now just as well. Because if you keep using heroin then sooner or later, you can lose everything.
You can lose your house, your car, your job, your woman, your kids, your family, and you can lose your life as well. It can happen over night, or over a long period of time, but eventually you can lose it all. And if you’re shooting up then any day now, you can overdose and die. No joke. It happens all the time. And your next shot can be your last. It’s just not worth it, and being a slave to heroin is no way to live. However, you don’t have to wait until you lose it all. You don’t have to wait until you hit rock bottom. You can begin to take action and quit dope now.
We quit using heroin first, because it’s the right thing to do. We quit using heroin for our families, our children, our girlfriends, our wives, our loved ones, our friends and everyone else who's been affected by your heroin addiction. And we quit using heroin for ourselves so that we can begin to have a much better life than what we have now. We can’t expect for things to go right in our lives when we’re out doing wrong. But if you do the right thing now and quit this drug for good then things can begin to change, your life can begin to change, and after this, your life will never be the same again. And who knows, maybe someday you’ll be able to help someone else quit heroin and change their life as well.

For your family: If you’re living at home with your parents, then be thankful that you still have a place to stay; because some parents would have thrown you out by now. And if it hasn’t happened yet, then it may happen soon. But if they know about your habit and are still allowing you to remain in the home then the best thing to do is to quit this drug now - for them. Quit this drug for your family.
There’s no greater heartache and disappointment for a parent than to know that their son is hooked on drugs, and worst yet, heroin. But you can begin to turn things around by quitting this drug and staying clean for good. |
And as a result, your mother, your father or both can begin to have the peace and happiness they most desperately need.
If you have siblings in the home, like a brother or a sister then it’s up to you to set a good example of someone who quit drugs and turned their life around. Yes, you can still become a role model for your brothers and sisters and you can still make your parents proud. So if you’re living at home, then do this for them. Quit this drug for them. And even if you’re not living with your parents, they would be so much happier knowing that their son is finally clean for good.
For a parent, worrying and suffering from afar can be just as hard as being present. But you can give them peace, hope and happiness, if you quit this drug for them. And as a result, your life will change for the better as well. If you have your own family, a wife, and kids and a home, then do this for them. Because without a clean husband or without a clean dad, they wont be able to have the life that they deserve. And the most important thing in the world, is the family.
For your woman: Most heroin addicts lose their girlfriends and lose their wives as well. And sooner or later they can lose the family also. And if you don’t hurry up and get down to business, then believe it or not, you can lose your family too. It happens all the time. If you have a girlfriend, or a wife, then do this for her and give her the best boyfriend or the best husband that you can ever be. You won’t have to lie about anything any more and you won’t have to live a double life any longer. You can be honest. And you can spend the rest of your days making things right and keeping her happy. You’ll be able to take her out to nice places and buy her all kinds of things. You can go on a honey moon as well. You can give her a better life and have a much better relationship with her once you quit this drug and stay clean for good.
For yourself: Do this for yourself so that you can begin to have a new and better life. Do this for yourself so that you can be free. No more heroin. No more dope sickness. No more wasting your money and having to worry about getting money just to get high and feel normal. No more worrying about any of that stuff, anymore. And with heroin out of the picture, you can begin to have a new and better life for yourself.
For the money: Yes. Do this for the money as well. And with all the money you’ll save from not having to buy heroin, you’ll be able to practically buy yourself a whole new life. You can get a new house, a new apartment or relocate to somewhere new. You can get a new car, pay for insurance and pay your bills on time too. You can fix your teeth, improve your health and buy yourself new clothes. You can do something special for your girl, your kids and your parents as well. You can do a lot of things with money once you quit heroin and stay clean for good.

For your health: Do this for your health so that you can have a much better quality of life. Everyone knows the dangers and health risks of using heroin. And such health risks include: kidney disease; liver disease, (which can lead to hepatitis C); pulmonary complications including various types of pneumonia; skin infections; abscesses; collapsed veins; increased risk of contracting (HIV) and other blood-borne viruses.
Even smoking heroin can cause serious health problems such as Leukoencephalopathy, which is the destruction of the myelin sheaths that cover nerve fibers; Dyspnea, which is shortness of breath, usually associated with disease of the heart or lungs; Status Asthmaticus, which is a long-lasting and severe asthma attack that does not respond to standard treatment; and reduced pulmonary function which can lead to pneumonia. |
And if you're shooting heroin then you can overdose and die. But if you quit this drug and stay clean for good, then you can begin to improve your health while adding many more years to your life span as well. Current health conditions, illnesses and infections can begin to heal.
And with the money you save from not having to buy heroin any more, you can begin to buy healthy foods, vitamins and herbal supplements. You can join a gym and begin to do exercise as well. You can begin to feel better almost right away once you get heroin out of your life for good. And there’s nothing better than living a clean and healthy life. And taking on a healthy lifestyle will help you to counteract drug addiction as well. Do it for yourself, and do it for your health so that you can enjoy the rest of your life in good health.
For your future: If you quit heroin now, then your chances for having a much brighter future will increase greatly. And without heroin in your life then the sky’s the limit. You can become whatever you want to be and do whatever you want to do. But in order to have a better life and a better future then you have to quit heroin first, and stay clean for good.

You should consult a physician in all matters relating to your health. Any action taken on your part in response to the information provided on this site is at the readers' discretion.
TIP: If at all possible, no matter which way you’re going to quit heroin, you may want to start taking some "Milk of Magnesia" 1 to 2 days before quitting heroin in order to relieve constipation and allow some bowel movements to occur. Milk of Magnesia, (magnesium hydroxide), is a milky-white liquid medicine that is used as a hydrating laxative and relieves constipation within six hours or less. And doing this before quitting heroin will reduce continual bowel movements during the process.

Quitting heroin cold turkey with the help of OTC meds:
Quitting heroin cold turkey with the help of OTC meds such as Imodium, Tagamet, ZzzQuil, Valerian Root capsules and can work wonders. And believe it or not, quitting heroin cold turkey with the help of OTC meds can make this kick the easiest kick you'll ever go through. The ZzzQuil can help with sleep. And Valerian Root capsules can help to relieve anxiety and restlessness.

The Imodium, with the help of Tamaget will help to reduce the rest of the heroin withdrawal symptoms. Imodium (which can be found in most countries) is an anti-diarrhea medication which contains Loperamide. Loperamide is an opioid drug which can have similar effects to opiates (in regards to relieving withdrawals) when taken in high dosages along with an acid reducer such as Tagamet. For example:
Day 1: You can begin to take 400mg (2 tablets) of Tagamet, followed by 24mg (12 caplets) to 30mg (15 caplets) (or even less) of Imodium every 5 to 6 or 7 to 8 hours, or as needed, all washed down with a glass of grapefruit juice. (Some people may be able to get by with smaller dosages as well. i.e. 16mg to 18mg every 10 to 12 hours or so).
Day 2: You can take 400mg of Tagamet followed by 20mg of Imodium, every 5 to 6 or 7 to 8 hours, or as needed, all washed down with a glass of grapefruit juice.
Day 3: You can take 400mg of Tagamet followed by 18mg of Imodium, washed down with grapefruit juice. (Depending on how you feel, you can stay at 24mg, 26mg or 30mg for the first 3 to 4 days or you can begin to taper down as well. That is entirely up to you.)
Day 4: You can begin to lower your Imodium dosage by half: i.e. 10mg to 15mg of Imodium yet continue with 400mg of Tagamet in order to get the best results from the low 10mg to 15mg of Imodium.
After the first 3 to 4 days the worst is over and you can begin to decrease your Imodium intake even more until you're able to come off of the Imodium completely. And with the help of other OTC meds such as ZzzQuil, Valerian Root capsules along with frequent hot baths throughout the day, quitting heroin cold turkey can become a lot easier than doing so without meds.

Quitting heroin warm turkey with pharmaceutical drugs:
Quitting heroin warm turkey with pharmaceutical drugs: You can also quit heroin warm turkey with the help of pain medications such as Tramadol or Vicodin and/or anti-anxiety medications such as Valiums or Xanax as well. When quitting heroin warm turkey you would take a pain medication such as Tramadol for example (as needed) along with frequent hot baths throughout the day.
Tramadol is an opioid pain medication which can help reduce withdrawal symptoms to a slight degree and make quitting heroin a lot more easier to do. |
Valiums (or Xanax) for example, is a benzodiazepine derivative drug and can be used to help relieve anxiety, insomnia, and symptoms of opiate (heroin) withdrawals.
However, such medications should be taken as needed and not for the purpose of getting high and comfortable. Use them only as a crutch to relieve pain, anxiety, nausea, diarrhea and stomach cramps during the first few days of detox and then begin to taper down.
WARNING: Do not take both Tramadol and Valiums (or Xanax) at the same time as this can cause dizziness, slowed breathing and even respiratory failure. It’s never a good idea to take 2 central nervous system depressants at the same time.
If you’re going to use both a pain medication and an anti- anxiety medication as well then it would be best to take them many hours apart taking the Tramadol (opiate pain killer) during the day and then the Valiums or Xanax (anti-anxiety medication) later on in the evening in order to help relieve anxiety. And if you’re able to obtain these medications from the street or from a doctor then quitting heroin warm turkey may be an option and a solution for you.
For more information on quitting heroin warm turkey with pharmaceutical drugs please read my article “How to Quit Heroin Warm Turkey with the Help of Pharmaceutical Drugs”.

Quitting heroin with the help of Suboxone:
Quitting heroin with Suboxone: Suboxone (Buprenorphine) is a semi-synthetic opioid medication which is used to help addicts quit heroin and other opiate drugs. Suboxone comes in the form of tablets or film strips and is placed under the tongue to dissolve and enter the blood stream in order to reach and fill the opioid receptors in the brain.
|
Once the Buprenorphine (Suboxone) has attached itself to the opioid receptors then you can begin to feel better within 40 minutes to an hour or less. However, before taking that first Suboxone dosage, you have to be dope-sick (in withdrawal) first, as taking Suboxone too soon can cause you to go into precipitated withdrawals. And most people do well waiting 24 hours or more before taking that first Suboxone dosage.
But once you get that first suboxone in your system successfully then you’re fine. And then the rest is just a matter of tapering down until you’re ready to come off of the subs completely. Needless to say, Suboxone works and has saved many lives. And it can save your life too. Furthermore, you may be able to get by with as little as 2 8mg film strips for the first few days.
For more information on how to obtain Suboxone and how to quit heroin with Suboxone then please read my article, “Quitting Heroin with the Help of Suboxone”.

Quitting heroin with the help of Methadone:
Quitting heroin with Methadone: Methadone is a full opioid agonist which comes in the form of pills, wafers and liquid juice and is able to relieve all withdrawal symptoms and cravings as well, thus allowing you to make a smooth transition from the heroin to the methadone and continue to work and function like a normal human being. However, methadone can become highly addictive as well.
And if you’re going to quit heroin with methadone then you would be better off to get on and get off of the methadone as quickly and as safely as possible. i.e. 10, 20, 30 to 40 days tops. And even that may be too long for some; because the longer you stay on methadone then the harder it gets to quit that drug as well.
You may be able to obtain methadone from the streets and you can even obtain a prescription for methadone from a local doctors’ office. But most people get their methadone from their local methadone clinic. And if you’re going to go to a methadone clinic then you’re going to have to beg and plead with them to help you get on and get off of the methadone as quickly as possible.
Let them know that you’re serious about quitting heroin and staying clean for good, but that you also don’t want to get hooked on the methadone as well. Let them know that you’ll comply in every which way possible, providing clean drug test results at all times, going to every meeting and counseling session and doing whatever it takes to stay clean for good. If they see that you’re serious, and you begin to prove yourself in action and in deed then they just might help you to get on and get off the methadone as quickly and as safely as possible. And for hardcore users, methadone may be the best way to go.
For more information on quitting heroin with methadone please read, “How to Quit Heroin with Meds”.

Quitting heroin with the help of Kratom:
Quitting Heroin with Kratom: Kratom is a leaf of a tree which is used as an alternative and natural means of treatment for many conditions such as chronic pain, depression, anxiety, and most importantly, heroin and opiate withdrawals.
Quitting Heroin with Kratom is an all natural means of reducing heroin and opiate withdrawals significantly. Kratom has also been used for methadone dependence detox in New Zealand as well. |
Kratom (botanical name Mitragyna Speciosa) consists of over 25 alkaloids (chemical compounds), one of which is called Mitragynine. Mitragynine is an opioid agonist, which means that it has an attraction towards the opioid receptors in the brain. When in withdrawal, Mitragynine binds to these receptors and is able to reduce heroin and opiate withdrawal symptoms.
Kratom is not an opioid. It is not a drug. It is a natural leaf which is sold in the US, Canada and in other countries for many different purposes, including heroin and opiate withdrawal. It is sold in the form of leaves, crushed leaves and in fine herbal powder as well. (Fine Kratom powder is preferred). Once a person consumes kratom (by mixing it with juice and drinking it, or drinking it as a tea), heroin withdrawals are reduced greatly within 20 to 30 minutes.
A person only needs to take kratom 4 times per day for the first 3 days and then begin to reduce their intake of Kratom for Day 4, 5 and 6. After that, that’s it. You’re done. You’ve just quit heroin with an all natural plant. And then from there it’s just a matter of time and recovery and rebuilding your health.
For more information on how to quit heroin with kratom, please read my article, “How to Quit Heroin with the Help of Kratom”.
Quitting heroin in a detox/rehab center:
Quitting heroin in a detox center: Quitting heroin in a medically supervised detox center can last anywhere from 5 to 10 days. And during your detox they may use medications such as Clonidine for example, which is a non-opiate medication that helps to reduce cold chills, sweats, restlessness and anxiety as well.
|
Some detox centers may also use Suboxone for the first 3 to 4 days of detox.
However, by going to a detox center you won’t have to worry about taking Suboxone, Methadone, or any of that stuff ever again. And once you’re done, you’re done. That’s it. No more drugs. And you can leave there without the need of any more drugs as well. And quitting heroin in a detox center is as simple as finding a detox center and then just going and doing your detox there. |
Quitting heroin in a rehab center: Quitting heroin in a drug rehabilitation center may be a good choice for some seeing that in rehab you’re in a secured environment, far away from the drugs, the people and familiar places and are surrounded by professional staff and counselors as well. In rehab, you’re able to break the heroin cycle within 30, 60 to 90 days and you’re able to get the counseling, guidance and direction you’ll need in order to make it on the outside world. And then from there it’s just a matter of staying clean and starting your life all over again. And if you’re able to get away for sometime and enter a rehab facility then quitting heroin in a drug rehab center may work well for you.

Cut off your drug dealer & let go of drug using friends:
If you want to quit heroin and stay clean for good then the best thing to do is to cut off all communication with your drug dealer(s) and drug using friends; because it’s going to be almost impossible to quit heroin and get your life back on track while maintaining contact with the people who use drugs.
If they do not want to change then their position in your life is to bring you and keep you down. No matter how cool they are or how nice they treat you, if they’re not trying to quit drugs then separating yourself from them is the best thing to do. However, some dealers won’t let you go that easily. They need your money to make money and to support their own habit as well. And if they don’t hear from you within a day or two then they may try to call you. And if they know that you’re trying to quit then sometimes, they’ll even offer you a free bag as well. And some times, they’ll come looking for you and show up right on your door step, uninvited. Some dealers will do everything they can to keep you as a loyal and faithful customer making it very difficult for you to quit heroin and stay clean for good.
Separation can become a little more complicated with drug using friends; mainly because some of them may actually be very good friends. But if they’re not trying to quit then they’re only going to bring you and keep you down. And there are some friends who may want to keep you down just as well. Misery loves company and friends need friends to get high.
If they want to quit then help them. Show them my website. Show them how to quit. And then the rest is up to them. But if they’re not trying to change then the best thing to do is to separate yourself from them. And you can begin to do so by deleting their phone numbers from your cell phone and possibly changing your cell phone number as well. And for some of you, changing your cell phone number may very well be necessary. Relocation may also become needful just as well.

Destroy and throw away all drug paraphernalia:
If you want to increase your chances of quitting heroin and staying clean for good, then the best thing to do is to destroy and throw away all of your drug paraphernalia, once and for all. Get rid of your drug kit, get rid of your foil, get rid of your straws, and get rid of your empty baggies and balloons.
And if you’re shooting up then break your needles, (all of them), and get rid of them too. Get rid of your spoons, get rid of your tie belt, and get rid of your cotton balls too. If you’re going to do this then do it right. Destroy and throw away everything, once and for all.

Take action and let the battle begin!
By now, you should already know how you’re going to quit this drug. i.e. cold turkey, warm turkey, with Suboxone or methadone, in detox, or in a rehab center.
By now, you should have already deleted your dealers’ phone number(s) and some of your friends' numbers as well. And by now, you should have destroyed all of your drug paraphernalia too. And all you have to do now is start the battle. If you’re going to quit heroin cold turkey then get whatever meds you can get and then start the battle. Most important and most helpful meds to get are Imodium, Tagamet, ZzzQuil. You can also use an herbal supplement such as Valerian Root and GABA Gamma capsules to help relieve anxiety. And you can combine all of this with long fast walks and long hot baths throughout the day. |
All of this combined can make quitting heroin cold turkey a lot easier and a lot more bearable to do. And all you have to do is make it through the first 3 to 4 days and then the rest is just a matter of time, recovery and recuperation.
For step-by-step instructions on how to quit heroin cold turkey with OTC meds, please read my articles, “How to Quit Heroin Cold Turkey with the Help of OTC Meds” followed by, “How to Survive the First 7 Days When Quitting Heroin”.
If you’re going to quit heroin warm turkey with the help of pharmaceutical drugs such as Tramadol, Vicodin, Valiums or Xanax then allow yourself to go into mild withdrawals and then take the pill(s) as needed, separating the pain meds from the anti-anxiety meds several hours apart. Take enough to get by and not to get high, just enough to manage the nausea, the cold chills, the back pains, the restless legs and anxiety. And then you can begin to taper down after the first 3 to 5 days. For more information on how to quit heroin warm turkey please read, “How to Quit Heroin Warm Turkey with the Help of Pharmaceutical Drugs”.
If you’re going to quit heroin with Suboxone then get the subs, wait 24 hours and then take that first Suboxone tablet or that first Suboxone film strip. You should begin to feel better within 40 to 60 minutes or less. Make sure you have enough suboxones to fulfill and carry out your taper plan. And then follow your plan to the letter. And during that time be sure to drink water and take long fast walks in order to make the tapering process as smooth as possible. For details, taper plans, and step-by-step instructions on how to quit heroin with Suboxone please read my article, “Quitting Heroin with the Help of Suboxone”.
If you’re going to quit heroin with methadone then find a doctor or find a clinic and start going right away. Beg them to start you off on the lowest dosage possible, 40mg, 50mg, and get you off of the methadone as quickly and as safely as possible. Get down to business right away. Stay off the dope. Go to counseling and meetings and provide them with negative drug test results at all times and use this time to rebuild your health in order to come off the methadone as smoothly as possible. It won’t be easy but it can be done. For more information on quitting heroin with methadone please read, “How to Quit Heroin with Meds”.
If you're going to quit heroin with the help of Kratom then do it. Get the best quality kratom that you can find. Stop using heroin and then start taking the kratom every 4 hours, or as needed for the first few days. Then by day 4 you can begin to reduce your intake of kratom and be done with it by Day 5, or Day 6. For more information on Kratom, how to quit heroin with kratom, how to take it and where to buy kratom, please read my article, “How to Quit Heroin with the Help of Kratom”.

Staying clean:
Quitting heroin is the first part of the battle. Staying clean is the next. Quitting heroin or any opiate drug is hard enough as it is. But staying clean can become even more difficult as well. But believe it or not, it can still be done. It wont be easy, but it can be done. And you can do it too.
However, the only way that you’re going to be able to quit this drug and stay clean for good is to go to battle against heroin and against yourself as well. Because whether you realize it or not, your greatest battle is going to be the battle against yourself – a battle against what your heart wants and what your body wants. But the harder you fight then the stronger you’ll get. You can look at it this way: You have two people within you. You have the inner part of you, which you can call your heart. And you have the outer part, which is your body - the addict. I realize your brain has been programmed as well; but even your brain can be re-programmed too. |
In your heart, you may want to do what is right, (that’s why you’re still reading this page now). But your body, the addict side of you cares only to please itself. And at this point in time, your body, the addict side of you is huge – real huge. And the part of you that wants to do right is so small that most of the time, it can’t do right even when it tries.
However, you can begin to fight against yourself, your body, the addict, and all the wrong things that your body wants to do. But you’re going to have to feed that inner part of you in order for you to grow strong enough to do so. You’re going to have to start taking in good things into your life in order to overcome the bad. And just like lifting weights; the more you lift then the stronger you get. And you’re going to have to continue fighting against yourself in order to become stronger. And in time, you’ll have more victories than defeats. However, no one can fight this battle for you. This is a battle that you have to fight for yourself.
Furthermore, during the first 7 days and more, you’re going to go through some serious mental battles. And if you did this cold turkey or have come off the subs right away, then sometimes you’re going to feel as if you’re going crazy. You may even experience what most people term as Schizophrenia. You wont know who you really are or what you really want. Your mind is going to start telling you how to get a bag and how to get it now. But regardless of your mental state, you can still begin to war against those thoughts of getting high by literally telling yourself to “shut up, shut up, shut up”.
Yes. You will have to actually tell yourself to “shut up, stop, don’t think about those things” in order to help you overcome your addiction. And you may have to continue telling yourself to shut up throughout the day as the battle goes on. But sooner or later, it will begin to fade away. And you can obtain more strength to continue the battle by reading this website over and over again until your mind becomes brainwashed and fully occupied with the thoughts of quitting this drug and turning your life around.
Your greatest battle won’t be against heroin. Your greatest battle will be against yourself. If you’re going to stay on the subs for some time then that is entirely up to you. But with or without subs, there will still be a battle. Without or without meds, you will still have to keep yourself from using heroin. But as long as you hang in there and stay in the battle, then believe it or not, you can quit this drug, once and for all.
Staying clean with Vivitrol: If you’re not able to stay clean from heroin no matter how hard you try, then you may want to consider Vivitrol, which is a once-a-month shot that blocks the effects of heroin and all opiate drugs for 30 days. Vivitrol has helped many people stay clean and it can help you too. For more information on Vivitrol, please read my article, “Staying Clean With Vivitrol”

Recovery - After the battle:
Once you come off the heroin, the subs, the methadone and long term opiate drug use, you are going to go through a phase of emotional instability otherwise known as PAWS - Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome; or in other words, the after effects of coming off of heroin.
Symptoms of PAWS can include brief moments of guilt, stress, anger, anxiety, depression, and resentment towards others and this can last anywhere from several weeks to several months after your last use of opiate drugs such as heroin. You may experience a series of mental and emotional ups and downs during recovery and it can affect your ability to interact with family members and friends, function effectively at work and regain emotional health. |
At times it may become difficult to concentrate, think clearly and solve problems as well. You can become angry and lose your temper for any little thing and lash out towards the people around you, even when you don’t mean to.
During PAWS, it can also become difficult for people to be around you. PAWS can make recovery difficult but it’s all part of the recovery process and everyone has to go through it in some form or another; some less than others as well. However, PAWS is not constant or continual. It comes and goes just as mood swings do. But there are things that you can do to manage and overcome the episodes of PAWS and eventually begin to feel better sooner than most people do.
First, it’s important to remember that PAWS is temporary and does not affect everyone in the same manner. Furthermore, it does not have to last for too long if you begin to take action to counteract the PAWS and help speed up the recovery process. For example, when you’re feeling down and depressed and really sad then you can reach out and call someone or visit them as well. Talk to someone, anyone. Go talk to a friend or a family member. You can go see a therapist also.
Venting and talking to someone helps to relieve depression, loneliness and anger as well. And if you do lose your temper and lash out at someone then be sure to catch yourself, stop yourself and apologize right away – several times if you have to. With or without PAWS, we can’t just yell at people and leave it at that. We need to catch ourselves, snap out of it and apologize right away.
When you’re feeling stressed out with anxiety then you can take off and go for a long fast walk. You can walk with a friend or walk by yourself, but going out for long fast walks helps to relieve stress and anxiety almost immediately. You can take a walk in the park and then take breaks to do some people watching from a park bench. And if you’re up for it, then you can go for a jog as well. You can also join a gym and begin to do exercise on a regular basis using light weights for example. Exercise produces chemicals in our brains that act as natural tranquilizers and relieve pain, anxiety and tension. And it can begin to improve our sleeping patterns as well.
You can also take some Valerian Root capsules followed by a long hot bath to help relieve stress and anxiety. Valerian Root Capsules, also known as natures Valium, is an herbal supplement which can be used to relieve stress, anxiety and restlessness. Valerian Root and Valiums seem to affect the brain in a similar manner, binding to the same receptors and having similar effects to those of Valiums. And these are just a few things that you can do and take to relieve stress, anxiety and restlessness.
It’s also important to take on a healthy lifestyle in order to help speed up the recovery process. You can begin to drink lots and lots of water daily which is the most important element needed for recovery. You can begin to eat small but healthy meals to feed your body with protein, energy and nutrition. And the best kinds of foods to eat are foods which grow in the sunlight which helps us to obtain that energy from the sun into our bodies in order to help bring to pass a faster process of healing and recovery.
You can also start taking vitamins, multivitamins and supplements such as L-Tyrosine, Niacin (a form of vitamin B which helps with depression), vitamin B6, vitamin C, wide-spectrum mineral supplements containing Zinc, Phosphorus, Copper, Magnesium and Potassium. You can do all of these things and be well on your way to a faster and smoother recovery.
However, it’s also important to remember that it takes time for the brain to heal and it takes time for the body to recover. But you can’t just wait around waiting for your brain and your body to return back to normal on its own. You’ve got things to do. You have a new life to live. And by eating healthy, drinking lots of water, taking vitamins and herbal supplements and doing some form of exercise, you can begin to heal and recover much, much faster so that you can begin to enjoy your new life. And in time, you will be able to feel much, much better than ever before.
A healthy lifestyle helps to counteract drug addiction. And there’s nothing better than living a clean, healthy life. And by the time it’s all over with, you can become a stronger, healthier, and happier person than ever before. And you can use this opportunity to change your whole entire life as well. It won’t be easy, but it can be done. And you can do it too.
During PAWS, it can also become difficult for people to be around you.
Turning your life around:
Quitting heroin is the first part of the battle. Staying clean is the second. Turning your life around is the next part of the battle and can become the beginning of a whole new life for you. No matter how good or how bad your life is now, you can still try your best to improve your life.
You can still do everything you can to change your life and change yourself as well. Because believe it or not, people change, we can change, and you can change too. And you can become a much better person and have a much better life if you begin to take action now. And one way to begin the process of change is to first analyze ourselves and our lives. Sit back, relax, and take a good and hard look at every area of your life. i.e. you, your self, your values, your morals, your lifestyle, your drug use, your living conditions, your relationships, your effect upon others, your health, your finances, work, training, education and every other area of your life. |
Examine these areas; and if they need improvement then you can begin to work on them, beginning with the biggest one first.
The drugs: We already know that heroin ruins lives and tears families apart. It happens all the time. It may take some time, but eventually, it happens - and it can ruin your life too. So you already know how important it is to quit heroin and stay clean for good. However, you may also want to consider using this opportunity to quit all other drugs as well.
Marijuana for example, may have its place in the medical field and in other areas as well, but smoking weed just to get high is wrong. In principle, any mind altering drug used for altering the mind is wrong. And we can’t get right by doing wrong. We can’t change and become better people when we’re doing wrong. And as long as you keep smoking weed then you will always have that ‘get high’ mentality and the desire to use drugs just to get high, which can eventually lead you right back to heroin. With weed in the picture you will never be able to let go of the drug user mentality. Furthermore, weed can hinder and slow you down and even prevent you from creating a new and better life for yourself.
There is a formula for changing your life, and quitting all mind altering drugs is a part of that formula. And if you want to change and turn your life around then the best thing to do is to quit all mind altering drugs, once and for all. And if you want to go all the way, for the sake of your health, then you may want to consider quitting cigarettes and alcohol as well. You can use this opportunity to become a new, healthy, drug-free person and it will be the best thing that you could ever do for your life and for your health. This is just something to consider for now.
If you’re selling drugs, then the best thing and the right thing to do is to stop selling drugs and get out of the game completely. Because there’s no way that your life is going to change while continuing to sell drugs. It just won’t happen. When you’re selling drugs to someone else, then you are in effect contributing to that persons’ addiction and in many cases contributing to their destruction as well. And as a result, and in return, they are contributing to your addiction and to your destruction as well. It’s a never ending cycle and it’s another example of sowing of reaping. Selling drugs is wrong. Selling drugs is illegal. And if you want to quit heroin, stay clean and turn your life around then the best thing to do is to stop selling drugs right away, and change. And who knows, maybe someday, you may be able to help the people you’ve sold to quit drugs and change their lives too.
Improving your current circumstances: Once you get the drugs out of your life, then you can begin to make money and save money as well. If you’re working at the moment, then you’ll be able to save an easy $200 to $300 per week from not buying any more heroin. That’s around $1,000 dollars per month. And you can do a lot with $1,000 dollars a month. And all you’ll have to do now is just keep on working and keep on saving in order to improve your current circumstances.
It’s also important to remember that making money has a lot to do with how hard we work, how many hours we put into the work day and how well we manage the money we earn. We have to work hard and be productive, all day, all week. And everything we do must be done in an honest and ethical manner. But in order to make and save money then we also have to be careful on how we spend our money as well. Because if we get paid and begin to blow our money on stuff we don’t really need, then sooner or later, we’re going to end up broke again, no matter how hard we work. But if we work hard, pay our bills, and cut down on what we spend on ourselves then we can begin to pull ourselves out of our current financial circumstances and little by little begin to improve our lives, in every area as well.
And then after some time of working and saving, then maybe, you can get a new or better car, a new house, a new apartment, and you can get some new furniture too. You can move and relocate to somewhere new as well. You can attend to any health or dental needs. And you can pay your bills on time, every time. You can do a lot of things, needful things, once you have the money to do so. Because regardless of what some people may think or say – money is important.
Money changes everything. And without money we can’t do much. Money dictates what you can and what you can not do. And unfortunately, most addicts can’t do much because most heroin addicts are always broke. Because yes, sooner or later, that’s what heroin does - it leaves you broke. But there is a formula that you can begin to put into action right now to help you fix your life and fix your financial circumstances as well. And that part of the formula is to work, and work hard –harder than the average worker, and manage your money as best as you can.
If you don’t have a job, then you definitely need to start looking for work just as soon as you’re ready to do so, (mentally and emotionally). Quit heroin, do everything you can to improve your mental, emotional and physical health, and then go out there and look for work.
If you already have some training or experience in some line of work then you may want to look for work in that field. But if you have no skills and no experience at all then don’t worry and don’t let that trouble you. Instead, get out there and start filling out applications, anywhere and everywhere, and don’t stop looking until you get a job. And once you do land a job, then be on time, all the time and put in a good days work. And while you’re working that job, you can always continue to search for a better job as well. And as long as you’re trying to do the right thing in your life, in every area of your life, then sooner or later things can begin to change and other opportunities may come your way.
If you dropped out of high school, then you may want to consider going back to school to get your G.E.D, (High School Diploma). You can check with any local high school for information on G.E.D classes and preparations for the G.E.D. test. And you can do this in the evening hours as well. Obtaining your G.E.D is not that difficult to do. And if I did it, then you can do it too.
Once you get your G.E.D, then it will open the doors for better job opportunities and you can further your education as well. Yes, you can go to college, training school, or any type of training institute. You can choose a career and then apply for financial aid at your local community college. Figure out what you want to do with the rest of your life and then do it. Go to school, get a degree and then find yourself a good job.
It should also be noted that some of the best and most meaningful jobs to have are jobs which involve helping other people. And such jobs include;

It should also be noted that some of the best and most meaningful jobs to have are jobs which involve helping other people. And such jobs include;
And there are other jobs that you can do and still be able to serve and help others in the process. If you want to become an auto mechanic for example, then you can become the most honest, most affordable and most reliable mechanic in your area. If you want to work in construction then you can become the hardest worker there and be there for your fellow workers when they need a friend to lean on.
If you want to become a web developer then you can become the best web developer that you can be and you can offer discount rates for non profit organizations as well. You can help people in any type of job and become a friend to those in need; (loyal and faithful friends are hard to find, but you can become such a friend for others). And you can become anything that you want to be if you put your mind to it.
If you want to set goals and create purpose in your life then you may want to consider going to school, getting a degree or certificate and then finding and securing a fulfilling and meaningful job.
You can also start your own business as well. Most people don’t realize this but heroin addicts can become some of the most resourceful people in the world. They’re able to create a plan and follow through with that plan until their mission is accomplished. And if you apply that same “go getta” attitude to the business world, (in an honest and ethical manner), then there’s no reason why you can’t start, build and run a successful business as well.
It may take some time, and depending on the type of business - a little capital as well, and you may have to work a normal job in the mean time in order to raise that capital; but if you want to start your own business then you need to know and realize that you are very well capable of doing so. You’re an entrepreneur. You make things happen. And you can do anything you want to do and become anything you want to be.

Become a better person: Most people want to quit heroin, but very few people want to change. But in order for us to have a better life to any extent at all, then we have to strive to become better people, in every way possible. And in order to change, we need to be willing to take a good and honest look at ourselves, find all of our own faults and see where we lack, and then begin to work on those areas in order to begin the process of change.
Unfortunately however, with or without drugs in the picture, most people don’t see anything wrong with themselves. And if they’re not careful, they can begin to see themselves as pretty great people. However, such people are blind to their own actions and how they treat others and are quick to mistreat and point the finger at you. We need to do the opposite. We need to find our own faults in ourselves and begin to work on those, and stop worrying about how other people are. |
We can’t change other people, but we can sure begin to change ourselves. And as a result, we can begin to set the example for others to see and follow.
Someone says, “I don’t want to change. I just want to quit heroin”. Well good luck with that friend. I wish you well. But it’s going to be very difficult to have a better life without trying to change who you are. And for those of you who do want to quit heroin and change your lives as well, then you may want to consider the following and think about it for now.
The most important attribute to have in ones life is honesty. Being honest in everything we say and everything we do is the most important thing in the world. An honest person can be helped. An honest person can change. And a person who does not lie, cheat or steal is priceless. But if you’re guilty of any of these things, then believe it or not, you can change. You can still change. If you really want to, then you can change. And you can become a clean, decent, honest man.
I’ve been guilty of just about every sin in the book. i.e. lying, cheating, stealing, drugs, sex, women. I was a mess. And most people thought that I would never change. And for a while there I thought the same thing myself. And I went back and forth, up and down because I wasn’t really sure of who I wanted to be. But over time, things changed, and I changed too. It took a while, but I changed. I learned the hard way. I learned my lessons in life through trial and error and sowing and reaping. And over the years, I’ve learned what to do, and what not to do as well. So I stopped doing wrong and started doing right. And the end results were much better than the first. And I may still have a long ways to go but change is a never ending process. And I will continue to do my best to keep on changing and become the best person that I can possibly be, and maybe, help others to do the same as well.
I believe in trying to live right. I believe in trying to do the right thing, even when no one is watching; even in….. my thoughts. Yes. I believe in fighting against our own bad thoughts as well. Yet at one time, I was the worst of the worst of them, living like a devil, day in and day out. But if I can change, then believe me, you can change too. No matter how messed up or how lost you think you are, you can still begin to put forth an effort to change. And in time you can become a new and better person and become the best person that you can possibly be. It won’t be easy, but it can be done.
However, change is not automatic, and it doesn’t happen over night. It takes time to change - time and hard work. Change is a process and is something that we begin and continue to do each and every day. We receive instruction on how to change and then begin to do our best to put those instructions to work in our own lives, each and every day. And for those of you who want to change; if you really want to change, then you can begin to do so, starting now. Let the process of change begin.
How we treat others: “Others first, and us last” is the golden rule to live by. Do what’s best for others first, and then what’s best for yourself. And one of the most important things that we can begin to do in our lives is to treat everyone with nothing but love and kindness – genuine, brotherly love and kindness. How we treat others is so important!
How we treat others will have a great effect upon their lives and our lives as well. If we’re mean, cruel and evil to someone then that hurt and that damage can damage that person and remain with them for life. It can actually end up having a negative impact on them for the rest of their life. Furthermore, when we’re mean, cruel and evil to others, then others will become mean, cruel and evil to us. We reap what we sow. And how we treat others will have a great effect upon how others treat us. But if we begin to show love and kindness to everyone who comes our way, then we can begin to have a positive effect upon the lives of others. We can actually make a difference in someone’s life just by showing them love and kindness in any way that we can. Even smiling at someone can help them to have a better day. And as a result, people will begin to show love and kindness to us as well.
If we have a problem with controlling our anger and our temper, then we need to begin to work on those areas and see ourselves as the problem in the sense that we need to learn how to handle all matters in a calm and peaceful manner while trying to control our emotions as well. We need to try to catch ourselves when we lose our tempers and put a stop to it right away. Cursing, swearing, telling people off; all of these things are things that we have to battle against and eliminate from our lives, in order to have a positive effect upon others and upon our own lives as well. We have to battle against those thoughts of hate, anger, violence and revenge as well. If we begin to have thoughts of hate or hurting someone who’s done us wrong then we need to start fighting those thoughts and push those thoughts out right away; otherwise, we’ll become negatively charged and become bitter and negative people. Fighting our thoughts is not easy to do, and is a foreign concept for most, but if you want to become a better person then it’s something that we should strive for and practice every day.
And if we do lose our temper and fly off the handle, then we need to catch ourselves and stop ourselves right away before things become worse. Then we need to apologize, and mean it, and make it right as best as we can. And if at all possible, bring them a peace offering as well. i.e. a gift, a treat, sweets, baked goods, etc… Don’t get me wrong; there will always be mean, cruel and evil people out there. The world is full of mean, cruel and evil people. Some of them can change. But most of them can not. But you can make a difference in the lives of others just by showing them love and kindness at every chance you get. And all of this is part of becoming a better person and turning our lives around.
Making things right: If we’ve done someone wrong, then we need to do everything we can to make it right. And I realize that not everyone lies, cheats and steals, but if you’ve stolen from someone, then you need to do everything you can to make it right. And to make it right, you need to do everything you can to get the stolen item back and return it to the rightful owner, or the replace the item with a new one, or pay them for what the item is worth. And then on top of that, you need to pay them extra to make amends – in total, double of what the item is worth. This is called restitution.
For example, if you stole and pawned your fathers’ $100 watch then you need to do everything you can to get that watch back, or buy him a new watch to replace it, or pay your father $100 cash. And then on top of that, you have to pay him an extra $100 more. We can’t just pay them for what we stole; we have to pay them double in order to make amends and make restitution. We have to do everything we can to make up for the wrong. And our lives can’t begin to change until we’ve done everything we can to make things right.
I also realize that there may be some matters which can never be made right. And we may have to reap for those deeds for the rest of our lives. But in the mean time, if we’re able to do so, then we must still do everything we can to make it right and then keep pressing on and keep moving forward while trying to do the right thing in every area of our lives.

If you have a girlfriend or a wife by your side, then be thankful, hold on to her and treat her right. Love her, respect her, provide for her as best as you can, and become the best boyfriend and the best husband that you can possibly be.
Don’t look at another woman, not even for a minute. In fact, don’t even think about another woman for that matter. Stay loyal, stay faithful, even in your thoughts. Yes, it’s wrong to think about another woman in a sexual manner if that woman is not your woman. It’s morally wrong to fantasize about your next door neighbor for example, if that woman is not your own. And we can’t get right by doing wrong. We can’t change by doing wrong. And we simply can not have a better life if we’re not trying to do what is right. |
And just like thoughts of using dope, if you want to change and become a better person, then you’ll have to fight against those types of thoughts as well, simply because it’s wrong.
You’ll have to keep telling yourself, “no, stop, don’t think about those things,… that’s wrong”, over and over again until fighting those thoughts becomes a part of you and a new way of life. It may become a constant battle day in and day out but it’s important to strive to do so in order to change and turn our lives around. I know this sounds crazy for most people, (fighting against such thoughts of this nature), but it's true anyway and is all part of the formula of becoming a new and better person and changing your life as well.
If you’re single then relax. Get stable first. Get some money in the bank, get your life back on track, and then let life send the right woman into your life when the time is right. Because usually, it’s when we’re not looking for a woman is when the right woman will walk into your life.
You may not be sexually active now, but once you quit heroin and stay clean for good then libido will begin to increase, energy levels will begin to rise, and the rest of your body parts will come back to life. Every woman is going to look good to you, pretty or not, old or young. And if the drugs don’t get you then the women will. So it’s important to practice and maintain self control while staying away from the wrong type of women as well. Furthermore, if we’re not careful, then it’s also possible to fall into pornography.
Yes. Pornography, porn, and dirty movies are also wrong and can become a problem and an addiction just as well. And in many ways watching porn can become worse than using drugs. Porn creates perversion and destroys morality, and morality is much more important than sobriety. Porn will desensitize and demoralize you and will eventually corrupt and pervert you to a far greater extent than most anything else. It can also damage the brain as well, just like dope.
You may not have any problems with porn whatsoever, and that’s great. But for those who do, and for those who may have a problem with this in the future, then it’s important to know, remember and understand that we have to battle against these things just as well in order to become better people and have a new and better life; because you cant become a better person while feeding yourself with stuff like porn or anything of the kind. And what we take into ourselves will determine what we become.
Fighting against ourselves, our thoughts, and our morally wrong desires is something that we need to try to do and practice every single day, simply because it's the right thing to do. And if you thought fighting against dope was hard, try fighting against yourself and fighting against your thoughts. But if you want to see a significant change in your life; if you want to see a significant change in yourself; if you want to start seeing miracles take place in your life, then you have to start battling against everything that is wrong and strive to do everything that is right, each and every day as best as you can.
It won’t be easy; not at all. You’ll get bombarded with wrong thoughts and desires throughout the day. And you may not be able to stop those thoughts from coming into your mind but you can sure begin to war against them. Thinking is a process. And you don’t have to stay thinking upon those thoughts for any length of time. The minute those thoughts and feelings come into your mind you can catch them and begin to war against them and start pushing them out right away. And when they come back, (and they will come back), then you can start fighting and pushing them out again.
It’s a constant battle day in and day out but it’s a goal and it’s something to shoot for. And all of this is going to help you to become a new and better person. Movies, music, and TV shows; all of these things can either help us or hinder us in the process of change and turning our lives around. If it doesn’t build us and help us to grow and become better people - clean, decent, moral people, then we need to get rid of it, if we really want to change.
Someone says, “what does any of this have to do with turning your life around?”
Friend, it has absolutely everything to do with turning our lives around. This is all part of changing your life and changing who you are. All of these things are important and necessary in order to change and become a better person. And it’s not just for our benefit, but also for the benefit of others. Because it’s not just about helping ourselves, it’s about helping others as well. And those who care about others are more than likely to change, and eventually have a better life as well.
We need to learn and try to do these things so that we can change and become better people so that we can set the example for others and so that someday we may be able to help other people who may want to change as well. Because believe it or not, there are people out there who do want to change but don’t know how to do so. They don’t know what is right or know what is wrong but they desperately want to change. There are people out there with some very sad lives who need our help badly! Furthermore, there are people out there who may want to change but may not even know it yet. But in order for us to really help them, then we have to change first, or at least begin to try to do so.
I get people contacting me from all over the world; USA, Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Africa, South Africa, Pakistan, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia and other places as well, and all of them need help to turn their lives around. But we can’t really help them change their lives until we begin to change and turn our lives around. This is why it’s essential to change – not just for ourselves and for our own benefit but even more so for the benefit of others to help others as well. And helping others change their lives will be the greatest thing that we can ever do with our own lives.

Keep pressing on and keep moving forward:
No matter how hard things get or what difficulties may come your way, you’re going to have to encourage yourself and become determined to keep pressing on and keep moving forward to a new and better life.
For some of you, things may begin to work out within a short matter of time. After you quit this drug, you may be able to get your life back on track sooner than you think. But for others, things may stay or become difficult for some time. And there are several reasons why this may be. For example, if you’re not living right or trying to live right then you can’t expect for things to change. You can’t expect for life to get better if you’re still living the way you’ve been living all this time. So what do you do? You stop doing wrong and you start living right and you keep living right no matter what may come your way. And if you are living right but nothing seems to change, then you may be reaping from your past as well. Not many people realize this but life is a process of sowing and reaping. What we’ve done in the past is going to catch up to us eventually. |
What we do today will come back to us in one form or another. And if you’ve been living a messed up life for the past several months, years or more, then you may have to reap for those things for a little while longer, and that may be part of the reason why your life is messed up now.
If we stop doing wrong now, then we stop contributing to the process of sowing. But we may still have to reap from our wrong doings of our past. And unfortunately, this is where most people give up and throw in the towel.
They quit drugs, stay clean and try to clean up their lives, but then when problems arise and opposition comes their way then they give up, throw in the towel and turn back to their old ways, and sometimes become worse than ever before. But you don’t have to let that happen to you. You can keep pressing on and keep moving forward no matter how hard things get. And if you do have some reaping to do then the best thing to do is to accept it, take the hits, get it over with and then keep pressing on and keep moving forward and continue to do the right thing in your life each and every day.
And some times, it’s a waiting game as well. And the hardest part in all of this is waiting for things to change, even after we’ve changed our ways and have begun to walk on a better path. But if we keep pressing on and keep moving forward then sooner or later things can become to change. If we keep hanging in there and strive to do right, then sooner or later, our lives will begin to change.
And if you can’t change where you’re at right now, or simply want to start your life all over again somewhere else, then you may want to consider relocating to someone new. A fresh new start in a whole new environment may be just what you need to turn your life around. But in the mean time, do everything you can to hang in there and do the right thing no matter where you’re at right now. And then sooner or later, things will begin to change, doors will begin to open and your whole life can begin to change.
We get one life, one shot. Let’s not waste our lives away on drugs and other things that are wrong and simply not important. Let’s not live our lives for ourselves and ourselves alone. Life can become boring and meaningless when we live for ourselves. So instead, let’s live our lives for the sake of others and for all of those who want to change. And as a result, you will be rewarded, and your life will never be the same again.
You can do this. You can really do this. You can quit this drug and turn your life around. You can become a new and better person and become the best that you can possibly be. You can change your life and help change the lives of others as well. And you can begin to do so, starting right now. Good luck my friends. And may the good force be with you.
Sincerely,
