Quitting heroin and staying clean by relocating:
|
If you were not able to quit heroin cold turkey, warm turkey with methadone or Suboxone, or even in rehab, then you may qualify for relocation. If you’ve tried everything you can and yet still can’t manage to quit heroin and stay clean for good then you may need to relocate. And for some of you, this may be your only hope to quit heroin, stay clean, and turn your life around.
Drastic times call for drastic measures. And while relocating to another city, state or country may seem extreme to some, many addicts see it as their last resort and the only way to quit heroin, stay clean and turn their lives around. |
Consider relocation as Plan E. 'E' for escape. Furthermore, if done correctly right from the start, you can actually end up living a happy, clean, and decent life within a very short period of time. Sometimes, those heroin demons can become much too strong for you, attacking you from every angle and sometimes even from within your own home. It’s even harder to quit and stay clean for good when you’re living in the city and the dope spot’s on every block. But if you’ve done everything you can and still keep relapsing, then maybe its time for a change of plans.
While some may be happy and content living within their home town, others may prefer to relocate, not only to quit heroin and stay clean, but to start a whole new life all over again from scratch. If you want to start a whole new life in a fresh, new environment, then relocation may be the answer for you. Some addicts manage to quit heroin and then within a few days, weeks and even months fall right back into that heroin slave trap all over again once they see their old dope-friends or the old dope-man, (their dealer) hanging out at the old dope-spot. These are all temptations waiting for you to get you to give up, give in and throw in the towel.
In fact, the main reason why many addicts relapse even after a 90 day stay in the best rehabs is because they went back home. And once they’re home on their original stomping grounds, then it all comes back to get them. And within hours, they’re right back on the street getting high. But if you want to quit heroin, stay clean and start a whole new life all over again from scratch then you may want to consider relocating to another city, state or country as soon possible. However, wanting to relocate and actually doing it are two different things. Wanting to relocate is the easy part. Anyone can dream. And even if you can get away for only 1 to 2 weeks then do it. Go. Yet sometimes, relocating can be the hardest thing to.
Human nature does not like change nor the unknown or and unforeseeable future. But if things don’t change soon, then most likely, you'll stay hooked on opiates forever. And in time, you will be brought down to a peace of bead, become nothing, and eventually, wither away and die. Heroin destroys the will of man. And soon, you won’t have any will power left at all. No matter how much you'd love to quit, it just becomes impossible to do so. And the longer you take to put your foot down and turn your life around, then the worse things will get.
The time to make a change is now. The time to start planning and take control of you life is now. If you can’t stay clean where you're at then move. And don’t be afraid for what lies ahead. I can almost guarantee you, that if you do things right from the very start, then most likely, you’ll have a much better life than what you have now. And I’m willing to bet that anything is better than what you have now.
Don’t get me wrong. You may go through some difficult times at first. You may suffer some. We still have to pay for our wrong doings from the past. “You can’t do wrong and get by”. LDA. But all you have to do is just hurry up, get it over with as quickly as possible and then move on with your 'new life'.
In time, life can become wonderful, bringing you to people and places you never thought possible. You’ll be able to build a whole new reputation for yourself and no one will know you as a drug addict anymore. And for some of you, you can start a whole new life with a whole new profession. No more hustling. No more crime. And for my dope sisters who took a wrong turn - no more stripping, no more escorting, no more prostitution, and no more selling your soul for dope. You’ll finally be able to live a clean, normal, decent life. Because it’s not just about quitting heroin - it’s about changing your life - forever.
A new place. A new start. A new you. So don’t worry. Be happy. And don’t be scared. Relocation works. It worked for me. And it can work for you too.

True: Not knowing what lies ahead can become intimidating. But I would much rather take a chance on the unknown than to stay put and live the life of a heroin addict, day after day after day.
I would much rather take a chance, and try to move some where far and start my life all over again from scratch than to stay, wither away, an die. But this time, I would do things right. I would stop doing wrong and start doing right, right away. I would drill it into my head that I’m going to move to quit heroin, stay clean, and turn my life around. |
Then I would plan everything out on paper, and then just do it, and go for broke if I have to! What’s a new life worth to you?
Think about it. Relocation is like having a second chance at life; a second chance to make things right. How often do you get a second chance to start your life all over again from scratch? You won’t, unless you make it happen or die trying. It won’t be easy. In fact, it's going to be one of the most scariest moves you’ll ever make. But if you do things right, with the right motives, and good intentions, then eventually, all things can work out for good, for those who want to change. And for those who want to change – you know who you are.
If there’s something inside you that keeps saying, “I gotta change my life. I gotta quit this junk and start living right. I gotta get out of this place and move far far away and never come back again. I still haven’t found what I’m looking for, but I’m gonna keep on searching until I find it. Plain and simple: I want a new and better life!” If that sounds like you, then get ready for the greatest change of your life. You don’t have to be nervous, and you don’t have to be scared. Only good things can come from this. And although traveling into the unknown can become scary, you’ll still be much better off taking a chance to leave than to stay where you are, relapsing, and remaining a slave to heroin.
Don't worry about where you will live, what you will eat, or what you will wear. If you do your best to quit dope, stay clean, and turn your life around, then it's quite possible that miracles can happen and things can begin to work in your favor. Anything is possible! But you'll just have to take a chance and hope for the best. And the best way for relocation to work in your life will be to first, determine in your heart and in your mind that not only are you going to quit heroin, but that you’re going to do your best to change your life completely.
No matter who you are, or what you’ve done, the best thing that you can do with your life is to stop doing wrong and start doing right from here on out. Life is too short to continue to live in the manner in which you’re living now. Going all the way, quitting drugs and living right, is the best way to go and will increase your chances greatly for having a much better life wherever you go.
Once you've settled this in your heart, then figure out where you’re going to go, and how you’re going to get there. You have to first set a goal and then create a step-by-step plan to achieve that goal. Even if your plan is just to pack your stuff up, get in the car, and start heading south, then that’s still better than having no plan at all. And if you can’t quit heroin and stay clean where you live now, then move.

Where to relocate to:
If you have family or friends, far, far away, then you may want to relocate to be near them. It’s good to be with family. And it’s good to be with friends – drug free friends, who will help you to get on and stay on the right path. And sometimes, friends can become much closer than physical family as well.
If you’re here in the US, then it’s always best to quit heroin and stay clean in a warm and sunny place like Texas, Florida, Arizona, New Mexico or California. These places are also the best places for singles and families to start all over again as well.
It's much more pleasant to deal with the warm weather than it is to deal with the snow and the cold winter months. And it's much more peaceful to live in the suburbs than it is to live in the city. But then again, that's up to you. |
California offers beautiful warm weather, almost all year round, no snow. Tall palm trees everywhere and beautiful beaches are just a short drive away. A drive up the Pacific Coast Highway allows you to enjoy beautiful ocean views and spectacular mountain scenery. And there's Yosemite and the Sequoia National Park as well. And best of all, you can wake up 3 hours late and still not miss anything.
Arizona is also a beautiful place to live with breath taking scenery and majestic mountains everywhere. The hot weather with the dry air brings more sunny days than rainy days throughout the year. Golf courses are plentiful. And the Arizona sunsets are absolutely beautiful. The population is growing while the cost of living remains affordable. And there are no earthquakes or tornadoes to worry about there.

New Mexico is a peaceful and quiet place to live, with a vibrant artistic and cultural community. Albuquerque is the most populous city in the state. It is a high-altitude city and serves as the county seat of Bernalillo County, and it is situated in the central part of the state, straddling the Rio Grande. The old city offers magnificent landscapes with outdoor activities all year round. And there's plenty to see as well, such as the Chaco Canyon National Historic Park, the Museum of Space History and the Carlsbad Caverns National Park. New Mexico also has affordable housing as well. And being close to Texas, it would be an ideal and peaceful place to live.
|
Texas is another beautiful place to live with beautiful lakes, beaches, and so much diversity in people and cultures. The weather is warm and the summers are long. And Texas was voted the "Greenest City in America" by MSN. Texas also offers a strong economy and quite possibly, the best job market in the country. Yet the cost of living is lower than most major cities. And it may also be one of the most convenient places seeing that Texas is right next to the Mexican border, (just in case you might want to get up and leave the country some day).
Florida is paradise. It's beautiful here all year round. We have beautiful beaches on the west coast and on the east with pretty palm trees everywhere. We have Disney World, Sea World, Universal Studios, Daytona Beach and Daytona Speedway as well. We have Busch Gardens, tropical gardens, beautiful parks, good schools and so much more. If you have kids then your kids would love it here. The weather's sunny and warm here almost all year round, making Florida a great place for recovery and a great place to live. And you're more than welcome to come here... I would love to meet you.

Arizona, California, New Mexico, Texas and Florida are all beautiful places to live. And if you already live in one of these states, then you can move across state, further south, or to another state as well.
Canada: If you're living in Canada and you need to move, then move to another province.
United Kingdom: If you're living in the UK, then move to another county, or move to another nation.
Ireland: If you're living in Ireland, then move to another county, or move to another province.

Australia: If you're living in Australia, then move to another state, or move to another territory.
New Zealand: And if you're living in New Zealand, then move to another town, or move to another district.
Wherever you are, wherever you live, if you need to relocate then do it. And if you want to move to another country then get a visa and move to another country. Do whatever you have to do to quit this drug and stay clean for good.
Where you go is entirely up to you. But wherever you go, if you're going to relocate, then it would be best to do so with the thought of change in mind. Because it's not just about quitting heroin, it's about changing our lives as well. And in order for our lives to change, then we have to change. And if you want to change and you’re ready to start a whole new life all over again, then start planning, start preparing, and start moving forward. This can become your opportunity for change.

How to relocate:
If you got a little bit of money left in your bank account then great; wonderful. But if you’ve got nothing then don’t worry and don’t despair, for there is still much hope for you. But for those of you who still have some cash, then you can start by searching Rent.com, ApartmentGuide.com or Google for apartments or houses for rent within the city or state where you'll be relocating to.
Start making a list and taking notes on prices, required deposits, utilities, expenses, etc. If you’re low on funds then you may want to start off with just the bare minimum until you can get back on your feet again. Some places will rent to you regardless of your work situation. And most cities have affordable storage facilities everywhere if you need to store furniture and other belongings temporarily. You can even start looking for work before you get to your new location.
You can search online for jobs for your trade and skills on Monster.com. You can even apply online for a job at Wal-Mart, 7-11, or McDonalds as such places are always hiring. You can also start working right away by going to a local temp agency first thing in the morning. The first ones there always get work. Or, if you have enough money to get by for the first few weeks then you can worry about the job situation when you get there. If you’re going to quit heroin cold or warm turkey then you might need to take the first 1-2 weeks off anyway. You’ll need time to get your head together before you can begin to adapt and work your way back into society. Then once you’re feeling better and stronger, or at least good enough to work, then you can begin to look for a job if that’s what you need to do.
If you’re going to quit heroin with Suboxone then find a private doctor on Suboxone.com and get started on a short term, low dose Suboxone program the minute you get to your new location, but call them and make an appointment before you get there. Or,… get your Suboxone where you’re at right now and then take off for good. All you need is 2 to 3 sub strips and you can get off of the heroin and off of the subs within 2 weeks or less. And that’s one less thing that you’ll have to worry about in your new location.
Or,… if you're low on funds, then you can detox first, under medical supervision, and then relocate to your new location. Many detox centers can detox you with Suboxone within 5 to 10 days and then send you on your way without the need of any more Suboxone or any opiate drug at all.

You can also call the SAMHSA Substance Abuse hotline at 1-800-662-4357. Call them and tell them what city, state and county you live in and then ask them to help you find a state funded (free) or low cost, detox center to go to.

Contact your local or national, drug treatment guidance and referral service and ask them to help you find a free, (government funded) or low cost detox center in your area. Make the call and make arrangements and then go. Detox first, and then relocate right away!
Worse case scenario: If you have no money at all, then somehow, either work to earn it, or sell something to buy a one-way ticket to your destination of choice. Then locate the nearest Salvation Army rehabilitation program, or a state subsidized rehab program, a Sober Living Home, or any church ran rehab center to go just for shelter. Such programs offer short and long term detox and rehabilitation programs which are free to enter. |
But they’ll have you working in no time since most of those programs are actually work based programs. But that’s ok. Work is good. And it’s better than living on the streets.
However, those are worse case scenarios and most likely you may not have to go through any of that. If you’re serious about quitting dope and changing your life as well, then sooner or later, things can begin to work out for you. And in the mean time, some of you may have to quit first, stay clean, and work a job for a while, (maybe 2 jobs), and then start saving money like crazy so that you’ll be able to move when the time is right to do so.
I also realize that some of you will be moving to your next location with just the clothes off your backs. And that's fine. That’s something to be admired. And I consider you to be the bravest of them all. And some day, this will all make a great story to tell your grand-kids. But for those of you who still have a little bit of money and some earthly possessions left, then you may want to consider the following to relieve stress during the transition phase.
If you have children, then you'll also be dealing with the anxiety which they too will be going through while changing schools and meeting new friends. You may want to search for a good neighborhood near a good school in order to make a better decision on where to live. You can find information on most schools on the internet. Write down phones numbers, addresses, and visit the schools to be considered. Once you've chosen a new school for your child or children then you can have the old school send their school papers and documents to your child’s new school. (Unless of course, you plan on home-schooling your children which is highly recommended these days.)
Make and use a list: Most likely you’ll forget many things. So you might want to make a list of things that must be done before you move. i.e. obtaining maps, returning any items which you may have borrowed or movies which you may have rented; filling out change of address forms; transferring prescriptions; calling all of your credit card companies to give them your new address; canceling your home phone line, cable and internet services, and making sure you have your utilities shut off before you leave and turned on in your new home before you move in.
Make arrangements to move: Call a moving company and make the reservation and preparations in advanced or reserve and rent a moving truck from U-Haul or Ryder to do it yourself.
Sell or give away unneeded, possessions: Keep what you need and get rid of the things you don't really need. Have a yard sale. Sell or give away things to neighbors or friends who may be in need. Just take what you need and sell the rest. You can buy new stuff later on down the road.
Don't wait till the last minute: Get boxes and packing materials ready and then start packing early. You never know how long it's going to take to pack all your stuff. Mark and pack one of those boxes as "Essentials" for when you arrive at your new location.
Don't pack important documents: Keep all important papers and documents in your possession or close by at all times, i.e. social security cards, birth certificates, passports, court papers, probation papers, marriage licenses, divorce and child custody papers, etc.
If you’re on probation, but still need to move, then ask your probation officer for a probation transfer. Explain the situation to them and Be Honest. Tell them that you want to relocate to quit heroin, stay clean and turn your life around. Your probation officer might be understanding and might help you to make arrangements with your new probation officer in your new location. Anything is possible. But if you’re on probation and they simply wont transfer you, or are simply not able to move at the moment, then in the mean time, quit this drug, stay clean, work hard, and start saving some money so that when you do get off probation you’ll be ready to move to your new location with money in hand.
But whatever the case may be, if and when you’re ready to leave, then don’t say a word to the dope man nor to any of your dope friends concerning your move. Erase their phone numbers from your cell phone and change your phone number as well. Tell only your close, drug-free, family members and friends where you'll be moving to. Make sure that they have your new phone number just in case they need to reach you.
Check weather reports ahead of time to know what the weather will be like on moving day, especially in the states you have to drive through on the way to your new location. The last thing you want to do is to drive right into a horrible storm.

Ensuring success in relocation:
Sometimes, when starting life all over again, one has to actually start from the bottom and work their way up. But as long as you’re doing the right thing, staying clean and working hard, then in time, things can get better and things can begin to change. Relocation works. It worked for me, and it can work for you. And for "some of you", relocation may be your only hope. However, let me be clear; none of this is guaranteed. There are no guarantees that everything is going to work out perfect for you. But there are however, a few things that you can do to improve your chances for change and success.

When you get to your new location, try not to make new friends right away. You’ll be much better off sticking to yourself or with family. But eventually, you'll meet some good, clean, decent people.
But when you get there:
Do however, read and re-read my articles, “How to Stay Clean for Good” and “How to Fix Your Life”. But don’t just read it, re-read it and do what the articles tell you to do. Because those who do, amazingly, end up quitting heroin, staying clean and turning their lives around.
And when you get there:
If you do your best to do everything right, then in time, you can end up having a life you've never dreamt possible; a good, clean, honest life; a second chance for a new life which none of us deserve. This is a gift. Throughout this website, you’ve been given the keys to having a new and better life. You have the power to change your destiny just by making a simple choice. And you now have the opportunity to alter the course of your life. All you have to do is make a decision. And that decision will change your life forever.
There’s a much better life out there waiting for you. And sometimes, you gotta just take a chance, go out there and get it. So don’t worry and don't be scared. You can do this. If you want to quit heroin, stay clean, and start a new life all over again, then start planning, start packing, and start moving soon. Good luck. And may the good force be with you...
Sincerely,

But when you get there:
- Do not waste time.
- Do not, I repeat, do not go out looking for heroin.
- Do not go out looking for weed, coke or crack.
- Do not go out looking for opiates or benzo pharmaceuticals on the street.
- Do not make friends with anyone who partakes in any such things as mentioned above.
- Do stay clean.
- Do keep busy.
- Do work hard.
- Do exactly what you there to do and do it quickly.
- Do your best to change who you are and turn your life around.
